Upon getting few responses to my online ad, I took out the part that mentions I don't drive. I don't see what this has to do with a relationship as I live in a large city and have managed to get around for 20 years without a car. I got some responses and when I emailed them back a few times and the subject came around where I had to tell them I didn't drive or have a car (they wanted to meet somewhere not on the busline and I could not get too as many of these guys live outside the city) they lost interest or stopped writing. HOWEVER, some of these same guys left off a child on their profile or added on after we talked. Why is it worse not to review that you don't drive till after you start chatting with someone but it is o.k for a man to say he has a teenage daughter and then after talking to him he adds that he has a 5 year old?

expect to be lied to online....and if you dont have the need for a car...then good for you...seems unfair that it would be a problem for a guy whether you drive or not...just remember most guys online just want to meet up somewhere and have sex....most are not worth wasting gas on anyway...so that will be one problem you wont have....just be straight upfront with them and tell them first off, then you will know what they are expecting...what do they want anyway ? - someone to take their kids to daycare....lol

Ignore the negative responses from the guys who responded to your ad in the past. Also, ignore the negative comments from the people who answered your question as well. The truth is that both sexes are guilty of double-standards and hypocrisies!

Put the fact that you don't drive on your add! Be open and honest, about everything... and the right men will begin to respond to you. If I were a single guy, liked you and your add, I would call just to find out how you go along without a car for so long! I'll bet that you have some interesting stories to tell... Not to mention the fact that you are definitely an on-time person!

Perhaps you are on the wrong dating site? I use the below dating site for all of my clients and have had a great deal of success with them in the past. Their members are serious people looking for quality singles, and very rarely will you see anything omitted from someone's profile...

You know? I would date a girl without a car, especially if they were very efficiant with the bus lines.... My only suggestion would be to first ask if they had a kid, and then suggest somewhere they could meet you, that run's on the buslines :) Make that initial first step, then when they drive up there, and they meet you, tell them you dont have a car, but you live right here in the city so you get around by bus. Just see what happens, you know if you told me that over a nice dinner or over a drink, i wouldn't mind taking you back to your place at all and setting up another time to meet :)

The online dating thing seriously is a crapshoot. I've gone through different sites, and the ONE thing I learned through it, is that people 95% of the time do not tell the truth. I would add back into your ad that you don't drive and explain why =). When people leave out important details such as children or exes etc...that's a red flag for the future, if they can't tell the truth now on anything, they won't be able to in the future. Just be careful! Good Luck!!

Double standard...basically, all the info in one's profile should be truthful, and anything that isn't there should be discussed when appropriate once the people begin chatting (esp if it's a potential deal breaker).

My view is, go ahead and put things like kids or 'don't drive' in your profile, that way it'll weed out the ones that consider that a serious issue and you don't have to worry (so much) about starting to like someone online only to have them bail when you bring up something that wasn't in your ad.

Unfortunately, the male species can be very hypocritical when it comes to members of the opposite sex. The phrase 'what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander' is unknown to most men. My advice is to wait until you find a genuine one, and basically disregard the actions of the others. You did nothing wrong and clearly they did not have the best intentions to begin with.

Well...they are dumb-a**es. It's quite obvious they are looking at the material possession than just the person. Honestly, you don't need that. Move on. I am sure you will find someone that will understand that having a vehicle will not end the world!

Just concentrate on the big city guys who also don't drive. Plenty of those in Manhattan or Chicago or wherever it is you're at. Your omission is minor; theirs was deceptive I'd say.

Go out to a bar and meet someone IRL.

Either that, or you need to find a new online dating service, because you're attracting trolls.

Real men don't behave that way.
