This is a very broad statement and sure to be inaccurate for many people. I'm not christian so I have no axe to grind here. I'm just pointing out the flaw in your "logic".

Because their religion calls for killing disobedient children, slavery, killing nonbelievers and those of other religions, killing even your closest friends or dearest spouse if they believe other gods or try to divert you from Yahweh (Deuteronomy 13:7-11), crushing babies against rocks, having your wife killed if she's not a virgin on your wedding night or if you're not satisfied with her, and so on...

Clearly these things are out of favor with society and are seen as immoral. So they have to make their faith fit into their lives and contemporary morality.

If they were to make their lives fit their religion we'd still be culturally in the dark ages, and the majority of human progress would have never occurred (historians estimate that without religion we would have invented the internet in the 1600s). Just look at the middle eastern culture for an example of what that would be like - blasphemy and adultery are still punishable by death because they believe in the literal truth of the bible (and the quran obviously).

Reason #1: Because it's an efficient and time honored tradition.

After all, the Bible itself as well as other religions' texts are essentially snapshots of mankinds thoughts regarding God at that particular time in culture and history.

Reason #2: Ego-centricity

The world revolves around us and we are always right. And so, religion must be bent to reassure us of this truth and to browbeat others in submission.

Reason #3: the warm fuzzies

We all need to feel good about ourselves, and a sure way to do that is to make our beliefs affirm our lifesstyles. Then we can take pride in ourselves and judge those who are different.

... and I'm sure there are many other factors at work.

Because most people like myself are born into a religion and it would be unacceptable to most families just to leave that religion, the rules are very stringent and most people dont follow to a T, but these rules have been around for a long time, and its something to live by, you would have to research a religion fully to understand why people believe they "should" or "should not" do these things, believe it or not, there is justification to the behavior

Because Christianity was invented two thousand years ago in the Middle East and is not relevant to today.
A good example is the wine debate. The wine described in the bible is the same alcoholic beverage we have today. But since many Christians prefer not to consume alcohol the "change" the bible to read Grape juice instead of wine.

Huh? My religion is unchanged from the beginning of the Church. From the time of the Apostolic Fathers. I don't attempt any change in The Faith Once Delivered Unto The Saints to make it "fit" anything

If we want to admit it or not, we are all self-serving to a certain extent. Therefore, we want to do what we want to do. People try to explain away their sinful behavior all of the time by rationalizing that "I was born that way!". If we were born to be a murderer, a drug addict, etc. would it be okay to carry out these behaviors? Certainly not! Then why do those engaged in other sinful behaviors insist that their sin is okay?

In this life, we are in bodies made of flesh and as such we struggle with the flesh. But through Jesus Christ, we can be released from the its bondaged and given the strength not to succumb to the flesh.

Depends on which Christians you are talking about.

I am a Catholic, and we are the original Christians. I can assure you that we do not make our religion fit our lives.

We even have a book, in black and white that explains our beliefs, it is called the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

No wiggle room there.

Now, not all Catholics follow all parts of the Catechism, but that is not changing the Religion, that is committing sin.

Peace and God Bless you!

Why do none Christians think that Christians are not happy with the greatest happiness of all. It is free will to choose what is right and what is wrong, and we have chosen righteousness over sinfulness. we are not perfect, we sin as everyone else does, we are righteous out of love of something greater than us. So we fit into our faith as your glove fits over your hand.
God bless you always, thanks for the opportunity to spread the Gospel of life.

Because they havent gone in search of the belief system that fits with thier own inner truth. Its easier to just go along with the herd rather than risk the trials and pitfalls that come with striking out on your own.
