True. Name for me a time when a major crisis has not been averted by conflict.
Also, in response to the hippies, there has never been in the course of history a prolonged period of peace that was not first precipitated by war.
War is a social process. We who believe in freedom and justice for all, also believe the weak and voiceless should be defended.
Then there are those who wish the USSR had spread all over the world, and poverty and suffering would have been the norm for billions of people, all while the select few reaped (stole!) the rewards of the laborers.
PS - pinelake302 is a moron. Conspiracy theories abound. Are there little green men where you live too?

While most of the civilized world got rid of slavery by the 18th century, the brave little colonies that would be America managed to hang on for a few score more years. There was a war, the result of which was the end of slavery, but that was coincidental. The war wasn't really about that at all. As for fascism, I agree. We all did a bang up job on that one. Communism? No. There was no war to end that. Ever. I'm a Cold War historian. I do realize the word "war" is in there, but there was never a "shooting war".
If you're looking for some clever way to justify the current US role in Iraq, I think you're looking in the wrong spot. And how can you end terrorism? Think about that. That's like ending murder. Have fun spending $100 billion a year at that.

Carthage, it solved the repeat problems that Rome kept having with those pesky Carthaginians.
War is a tool. It is the most terrible and extreme of tools, but one none the less. History shows it can be a very effective way of getting what you want. You just have to be willing to risk the lives of your own people, as well as kill many of your opponents.
There many examples of wars that should not have been fought. Wilson's invasion of Mexico or the War of 1812 come to mind.
There are some wars, not listed by you that should have been fought. An attack on Hutu forces in Rwanda was justified, as well as an aggressive war against Pol Pot.
War is like any human endeavor, I believe, and can be noble or heinous in its prosecution.

Ending Slavery was an afterthought to the Civil War. A positive outcome to be sure, but not the reason it was fought. The reason most wars are fought are
Glory
God
Gold
...and land
The land disputes have mostly been settled, though there are some that still go on. Unfortunately, removing leaders who would be detrimental to a healthy environment for their country and the world is still necessary and sometimes War is the only way to achieve that. The battle to keep new, more evil dictators from coming to power is like a hummingbird trying to fly into a hurricane.

I believe that it is true. Think about it, has physically fighting someone ever made you just want to be their best friend? The answer should be no. You still dislike them or even hate them so why would war be any different. Wars only stop because there is noone else left to fight or people are just tired of the inevitable (death). People never declare friendship after war so it is actually pointless. Even though war has possibly ended each one of these things that you have mentioned, there are still offset consequences that follow afterwards and they still exist, for example slavery and nazism, prejudice and racism definitely still exist in some areas.

False the quote has no merit. Ending slavery did not require a war, dozens of countries gave up slavery without alot of violence. The Civil war had about as much to do with slavery as Iraq had WMD. Fascism- I use the definition of strong centralized government, a war machine, propaganda and rampant nationalism in which case it hasnt ended its just begun in this country. Nazism/WW2 was caused by the French at the treaty of Versaille and a war did effectively end it. Communism continues to exist our now good buddies the Vietnamese are Commies, China, North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela are all commies and the 2 that we have had wars with were a loss and a draw (technically still at war) so war didnt end either of them and its propagating.

False, because war didn't end Communism.
The fact that Communism sucks ended Communism, both in the Soviet Union and in China (which is no longer economically Communistic).
The USSR just went broke, and the top leadership knew it. It didn't take a war.
Fascism still exists as a concept in many countries, as does slavery, so war didn't end those.
True insofar that war did conclusively end Nazism.

Isn't that enough? Sounds like all ligament reasons for war to me. Although sometimes the end result of war is not the out come we wanted - it has to be worth fighting for. Our freedom & security of the United States is worth fighting for!

War has never solved anything. War has only made the rich richer and the poor dead.
Every major war has been financed by those who stand to make the most profit from it. Forget the political or freedom connotations to it. All wars are prompted by and financed by whom are known as the "Power elite" Usually they finance both sides of the "war". For instance WWII was financed by the Rothschild's of England and the Warburgs of Germany. The Federal Reserve in the USA also financed a goodly portion. These are but the three major players in the financial games. They are all interconnected to one another.
Take the current war in Iraq. Cost: 10.3+ Billion/week! This is currency borrowed from the Federal Reserve who created it out of thin air, who loans it to the US Federal Government who must pay hight interest on that currency. Where do you think all this currency is going? Into the pockets of the manufactures of all the equipment needed to send innocent young men and women out to be killed or injured for life! Not the rich, but the poor bleed for these blood suckers!
No war was ever fought for freedom...you have less freedom today because of war. Wars are fought for money.
Now those of you who disagree with me stop and think about what I have said...I think you will start to agree.
