We are planning a dinner, dancing night out with some friends.
The plan is to have a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, the switch when we go dancing. Is beer ok to switch to after? How about hard liquor (tequila, rum/coke etc) I know there is some rule of thumb about mixing your liquors (dark vs light), but can't seem to find it.

You can pretty much drink what ever you would like. Just make sure to drink plenty of water. I usually do a glass of water for every two drinks and a big glass by my bedside to get me through the night. Also, it's not a bad idea to take a couple of asprin before bed time. Most importantly, be safe and don't over do it. Know your limit.

The best rule here is the simplest: moderation.

Don't drink too much! Have a designated driver. Have fun.

The basis of the rules is that if you drink less potent drinks earlier, and more stout drinks later, the harder drinks will hit you harder because you're already well-traveled down the road of inebriation. It's better to drink the more potent drinks earlier and use the less potent drinks later to just "maintain" your level. As the earlier poster said, drink plenty of water.

Did I mention the part about the designated driver?

A way to remember it: Beer before liquor, never been sicker.

Although this isn't even true for me.

The "rule" affects different people differently. I can't finish a night of drinking with beer.
