I think maybe in the old days, treason was cause for exile but not anymore. Where would we send someone if we didn't want them anymore. Who would want our garbage. Nowadays if someone does something really really bad, we just put them in jail and execute them. It works so much better!!

As A US Citizen - the answer is no. However, it can mean that once you leave the country under your own steam, they may not let you back in (for crimes like treason or other 'war crime' verdicts). They may also exclude you if you have ever been convicted of a felony (even if it was done in the US).
As a non-citizen ... the answer is yes. Any felony or immigration violation can be grounds for your deportation. This applies to all classes of 'alien': Non-Resident Alien, Resident Alien, Naturalized Citizen, and Permanent Resident by the way. If you leave the country on your own, they may refuse you the right to re-enter, since you have a criminal record.

If you are illegally here you have already done the only thing you have to do to be kicked out - enter illegally when you should not be here.
If you are a legal immigrant I believe it usually takes a felony.
If you are an American citizen with no other country of citizenship, I'm pretty sure you would have to agree to it.

If you are an illegal alien, a legal resident or naturalized citizen of US, you may get kicked out by committing a federal crime. The only person that will not get kick out would be a person born in US- then in that case he/she would go to a federal prison.

If you are an illegal immigrant it's automatic. Even if you are a legal resident / naturalized citizen who commits a serious enough crime you can have your green card / citizenship revoked and be thrown out. Regular US citizens cannot be deported.

If your an American citizen, then you cannot get kicked out, you have to either be an illegal, or have status here, then commit certain crimes and then get deported..

If you are illegal or a naturalized citizen that has done something REALLY bad in the past (e.g., Nazi guard at a concentration camp) -- absolutely. And, you should be "kicked out."
