whenever i start studying i think at that time that i will study for 2.5-3 hrs. But after about 1hr i decides to take a break for 15-20 mins for refreshing. But that break becomes very long ,even upto 3-4 hrs(& I AM NOT ABLE TO STRICTLY TELL MYSELF TO SIT BACK & START READING AGAIN)). And when i again sit for studying , my link with the topic which i was studing earlier becomes completely lost & i have to devote 20-25 minutes each time to recall that earlier studied topic.

how many hours you study is not important. with how much concentration you have studied is important. it is always better to take rest after a continuous study of 2 to 3 hours.it is always better to study loud so that your attention will not be distracted.

You're taking too long for your breaks -- I don't mean the several hours, I mean the 15-20 minutes.

If you want to study for 3 hours, then take only at most a five minute break.

Find some physical thing to do for a few (no more than 5) minutes -- a physical thing; walk from your study-spot to xxx and back.

Then sit.

Also, take your break when you've come to a reasonable stopping place, not by the clock.

You're biggest problem may be HOW you're studying.

If you're just memorizing, then you don't remember the material because it doesn't make sense to you.

That's not learning.

What you need to do is make sure you understand everything you read, before reading the next thing.

I also struggle with this one. I always use earplugs, even if I am studying at home alone. I also allow myself to have breaks to get up and move around. It helps to actually go out and take a little walk, get some fresh air and blood pumping. But in order to do this I always have a timer set. I set it for 45-50 minutes study time and then give myself 10-15 minute break. Studying in long blocks of time is hard and actually counterproductive. Don't start watching TV or anything during your break, let your mind wander or meditate. This will actually help retention and should help with losing your topic. You just have to really hold yourself to that timer.

increase your will power even during the time you take a break you should be calm and peacefull so that when you go back to studies you dont have to work hard on your concentration .this can be achieved by regular meditation start by being aware of your breathing pattern and learn to sit in one place without being diturbed atleast for ten to fifteen minutes which you may increase bit by bit.
so also taking another subject to study can be viewed as a break.

You must do yoga early morning . You should study at 5-7 a.m because at that time the concentration level becomes very high and the things get struck into the mind easily.

I also tried this and it's working. You must also try it

Dear Mohit ,
Try writen practice ,if that doesn't help ,try to search for your topics on the Net and use the tones of study -help material available there.
It not only asuages boredom it also helps in spending extended time with your subject. So cruise along and study while you surf..
A maritime warning though :please try not to get lost in the cyber world by clicking on every word that blinks!!
I hope in good time your concentration would improve and you'd pass your exams with flying colours

Make a time-table. Stick to your regular study hours but do give realistic rest hours in between as it is not possible to study continuously without a break.
