I'm not sure that I truly understand your question.
Firstly, there are many cameras from many manufacturers. While Canon is often considered the best, or at least a very good manufacturer, that's not to say that every camera from Canon is better than every camera from every other mfg.
It's a fiercely competitive environment, and some manufacturers have added features, capabilities and style at a price that you may prefer over a Canon or a Sony.
Canon (and this applies to all manufacturers) makes low priced lines of cameras that lack capability, but are targeted at the low priced market. and, since Canon and Sony tend to get a premium price for their 'brand', you'll often find a better camera at the same price from Panasonic or Fuji (or others).

Check out your local library. Periodical section. Consumers reports. They will have what you're looking for.
I have a Kodak Easy Share and I love it.
