The way to detect air leaks in air springs is to turn off the air suspension moter while the car is running(located in the truck,) turn it off and then leave the car sit overnight or leave it running and take it for a drive. It should not lose air. If one corner or area is sagging then there is a leak. It will be perfectly drivable for a while, but evetually the air pump will go out since it is have to work more regularly just to keep air in the springs. You say your motor is kicking on randomly. If it is ramdomly and frequently, then I'd say this might be your problem. Cheaper to fix it now than later.

MIKE C is wrong no fuse controls that. I have 98 Continental I have owned since 1999. Yes the air suspension does air up when started and let air out when parked. It shouldn't run but very few times after you are driving. If you are hearing the pump come on frequently like more then 3 or 4 times while you are driving something is wrong there is a leak not a fuse problem. I have not had a problem with my air ride so far. One thing I do is turn over the air suspension switch which is in the trunk. I stop the car on level ground open the trunk shut the car off get out and if its at a good height i reach in the trunk and turn the switch off. The car will stay at that height and the pump will not run. The message will display on the dash that the air ride is off just hit the rest on the dash.

I doubt there is anything wrong with your air ride suspension. I have air ride on my 95 Mark 8 and it cycles to raise the car when you first fire the engine up you will hear the air pump kick in. My Lincoln adjusts itself on curves to flatten out the car but also lowers itself by 2 inches at 60 mph to reduce drag. Likewise when you slow down the car will raise back up ie: when coming off the express way you hear the pump running.
As long as the car is the same height at all corners when the car is running I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

one or both of the "air spring" bags is leaking they are best replaced in pairs with new control valves at the same time this is not an inexpensive repair but 400 to 600 us dollars should more than cover it .[generaly it will get worse for a while and then fail altogether. leaving the rear sagging and a tumblecart ride not to mention horrible handeling]

It could be alot of different things. I have seen air bags, and lines leak, but your problem sounds like a relay. Under your hood their are relays for your air ride, and when they get older or corroded, they dont always work. When the car is running and the air ride starts to sag, tap on the relay, and if works after that then thats your problem.

those other two answers are partly right , it is air ride suspension but the most likely cause is that the fuse underneath the hood is starting to go bad and is having a hard time maintaining the proper ride height , once you change the fuse everything should go back to normal , this is also the case in a lot of older cadilacs as well. read the owners manual to tell you where to find the fuse .

you have air ride suspension, this is normal, if the rear of the car isnt sagging while you drive, then the suspension should be emaculate....good luck

you should take it to a dealer and see whats wrong. Then gho to a body shop, electical shop, etc. and fix it

its air ride...it should be doing what its doing...if its down when ur driving.. very expensive to fix.
