1. If your right handed, stand with your left foot forwrd and bend a little at the knees.
2. Stand at angle with your right shoulder facing your opponent so when you throw your right punch you throw your body weight into it.
3. Keep your chin down and eyes always on opponent.
4. When throwing a punch with your right hand keep your left glove at your chin for cover and vice versa.
5. Don't smile at your opponent, look mean & intimidating. Give her something to worry about.

First things first never consider armature boxing anything other than a serious endeavor. The blogbaba once inadvertently wandered in to a reputable establishment that just happened to have that very type of entertainment ongoing. There was some lack of skill, but a few of those women were in pretty good shape, and understood more than just the basics. The one who won the thing could have held her own with just about anyone in the place, men or women. Don't underestimate the level of competition, take it seriously and train as if you were training for any boxing match.

You need to find a coach who can train you. Sounds to me like you will be competing in a "backyard" show or an unsanctioned event. These are not safe as the basic amateur boxing rules, such as a trained referee in the ring and a doctor ringside, are not followed.

Katie ~
There's not much you can really do in two weeks. Just remember one thing. Always throw your punches straight. No CAT - PAWING. If you throw straight punches you'd give the crowd some sense that you know how to fight, because trust me ALL of the girls will be cat-pawing. Try not turning you head away from the punch move it from side to side, not straight back.

Good luck Katie and thanks for the question.
