The measure of integrity in a presidential candidate is his willingness to do what is right in the face of opposition.
I man like that probably could no longer get elected in this country where it is all too common to buy votes with pledges of give-aways.
One of our founding fathers said this: If the people ever figure a way to vote money from the federal treasury into their own pockets this country will be doomed.

I think that neither criticizing them nor kissing their butt is a sign of integrity. I am more impressed by someone who campaigns on his own power instead of on the backs of others.
Instead of criticizing the "religious right", they can criticize "President Bush" or "Senator so and so", for specific complaints.
Criticizing large groups like "the religious right" or "the liberals" usually ends up being demagoguery, and takes away from the credibility of the candidate.

It is not just the Southern vote.
Believe it or not, not all Christians drive pick up trucks, chew tobacco, and hunt year round in the bayou or hills of Georgia.
Some Christians even live in the north and yes even in New York and California!
Peace!

Politics and politicians have their own standards of truth.
Depends on which way the wind is blowing.
