we found him 3 mons ago and he is a great pet except for this.he "crys" for his canned food every 3 hours around the clock(dry food out all the time)now thats it nice out he crys to go outside allmost all the time.we are limited to what we can do as we live in a condo(no basment) and can't really let him out as we are close to the road.the vet said hes in good health(teeth too) i think hes just spolied as i feed him whenever he crys to keep him quiet(about 2-3 times in the night) what can i do to brake him of this habbit so we and our neighbors can sleep at night?

Get him another cat to keep him company.

treat a cat like a 3 yr old is what I have learned. my one cat, Wesa, is part Siamese and talks, talk, talks. I just give her a stern NO and talk like she's a 3 yr old, simple words. She listens, gives up and goes and does something else.

Put him on a scheduled pattern, food at this time and this time, period. When he cries, just say NO. don't have to yell, just stern, they will pick up on the tone.

give him a window sill to sit/lay in w/ the window open and just a screen, so he can feel the outside, etc. when he cries to go out, same NO and then place him in the window sill and let him see/feel that to make him realize...this is it buddy, all you get.

if you have a hallway in the condo building, maybe let him explore that some just to have something to do. Wesa was like that, she shut up once I let her explore something. Imagine being trapped in a room all day, it would get boring.

also some catnip will shut up a talking cat, for drugs are more important than what they originally wanted. the Persian that lives in our hallway (entirely cat building) talks at night, loud. I shut him up by giving him a pile of cat nip every so often.

I don't know if this applies to you.. but my old cat started crying like that when his teeth were going bad.. ears nose and throat are all connected... once i had the bad ones removed he quietened down alot... ( his ears where always dirty too and this has also stopped)
