We live in Cincinnati Ohio and know the team here. We also know about a lot of different teams throught the country, but before we travel anywhere, we want to know how people find the "Best" in a field. We specifically are looking for a doctor who works with pharyngeal flaps. You know how you read about "world reknowned" and "top doctor in the field", well, how do you find them??
THANKS!!!

Have you contacted Children's Services? In CA, we have California Children's Services. At this place, we have children operated on, by the specialist they choose, and all bills are paid for the child. It doesn't matter is you are rich, because no child is, as far as Children's Services is concerned. Contact your Medical Associations and ASK who is the most caring, competent Surgeon in your area. My family seems to have many born with the cleft pallete, and it is such a serious issue, that I am so sorry to think that your surgeon did not seem to be caring! That's horrible! (hope you reported that one!). Honestly, I do not understand when you say the local team has given up on him. How can this be? Do you live in a state that has places like CA does? San Francisco, CA seems to be where a lot of CA ends up, seeking the best surgeons, around. May I ask the specific problem the surgeons you WERE using gave up on? I know the lip and the pallete and, sometimes the soft pallate behind that............so, I'd be interested, really, really, to hear your child's age and current medical problem. This must be SO hard for you and your son.

The local MD's should be able to refer you and your son to some specialist's and set up an appointment at a Children's Medical Center etc,you shouldn't have go around "shopping" for one. You could look some up at your nearest big university medical center web page etc. Many children's hospital's charge what the parents can afford to pay, some Civic clubs will also help like Shriner's or Lion's clubs. Good luck. SW FNP
