From decorating to making to Dyeing easter eggs........ and then eat and enjoy *lol*
Each Easter I make these terrific tasting and great looking eggs - try out the different variations - they are all a hit! Mom or Dads help might be needed. Ingredients
1 cup soft butter
2 tsp salt
4 tsp vanilla
1 can condensed milk (Eagle Brand)
10 cups icing sugar
1 tsp. yellow food coloring
1 lb. semisweet chocolate
Method
Beat butter, salt and vanilla until fluffy. Add milk, beat in sugar. Blend until stiff. Dust with brown sugar. Knead til smooth.
Set aside more then 2/3 of mixture.* To the remaining mixture add yellow food coloring. Blend in well. Divide yellow and white into 16 or 24 pieces. Shape yellow into ball, mould white around yellow to form an egg shape. Dry at room temperature on paper towels for 24 hours.
Melt chocolate in double boiler or in microwave until smooth. Dip eggs in chocolate. (paraffin wax may be added and melted with chocolate to prevent chocolate from melting in your hands). Once dipped cool at room temperature. Refrigerate after cool.
When sliced these eggs will have a white cream filling with a yellow filling that appears to be the yolk. They look nice sitting in an Easter basket!!
Variations
*Use the 2/3 of cream mixture above to make variations
Orange Add one teaspoon orange flavoring and a few drops of red and yellow food coloring to cream mixture. Kneed well to get smooth color and flavor.
Cherry Add one teaspoon cherry flavoring and a few drops of red food coloring to cream mixture. Kneed well to get smooth color and flavor. Finely chopped bits of maraschino cherries can be added.
Maple Walnut Add one teaspoon maple flavoring to cream mixture. Kneed well to get smooth color and flavor. Add about 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts. Kneed in well.
Peanut Butter Cream 1 cup of peanut butter, 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 cup confectioners sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 tsp of vanilla in bowl. Kneed until smooth. Roll into oval shapes and allow to dry overnight. Dip in chocolate as above.

Making your own Easter eggs is a fun way to celebrate Easter. You can decorate your eggs as simple or fancy as you want! Create a tradition by decorating eggs every year. Before you can decorate the eggs, you need to get the inside of the egg out, without breaking the shell! It's really quite simple to do. How? You blow the egg out.
Gather together these things:
eggs
a needle
a bowl
Using the needle, poke a small hole in the narrow end of the egg, and a slightly larger hole in the other end. Move the pin around to make sure you tear the membrane around the yolk. Now, holding the egg over the bowl, blow through the small hole. The egg will be forced out the larger hole and into the bowl. Make sure you rinse the egg well with water - I'll leave it up to you to work out a way, but if you get stuck, email me! Oh! What to do with the egg-innards? If it is for yourself, you can make the eggs into a nice omlete or quiche. If doing this with a class, you might not want to use the eggs for reasons of health regulations. Your eggs are now ready to decorate. Let your imagination run wild!
You can use any of these things to decorate your eggs:
paints
ribbons
sequins
glitter
lace
colored foil
felt tip pens
fabric scraps
tassels
dye kit
Use candles to drip wax onto eggs. When the wax sets, dip the egg into some dye. Take the egg out and let it drain. You can either peel the wax off or you can drip some more on and dip it in a different colour. Just another hint - use the lighter colours first. When you have finished, carefully peel off the wax.
Don't forget any supplies you may need, such as paint brushes, water, glue, and scissors. If you don't want to use real eggs, you may be able to find egg shapes made out of styrofoam, papier mache, or wood at your favorite arts and crafts store.

My family always painted egg's with paint (boiled aggs) which were put into everyone's easter basket. You can use food colouring dye or dye bought especially for painting easter eggs (from the store). For each color measure 1/4 tsp. food coloring in small bowl. For Food Dye - Add 3/4 cup hot water and 1 tbsp. white vinegar to each color. Add eggs and allow to sit until they are the desired color. Remove with slotted spoon. Polish dry eggs with small amount of cooking oil and soft cloth.
Personally I prefer Chocolate Eggs - Yum.Here's how you do it. You will need some moulds.
Heat some water in a pan (hot but not boiling); half-fill a basin with chocolate; stand it in the water and stir with a wooden spoon until it has melted. Plain chocolate should be heated to about 44°C - white and milk should go no higher than 42°C. If you don't have a thermometer, crook your little finger and touch the chocolate with the flat side - it should feel just warm.
Holding the egg mould in the palm of your hand, ladle in chocolate until it is about a third full. Tilt the mould in all directions until the chocolate covers the entire mould, then tip the excess chocolate back into the bowl. Place the mould upside down on a piece of greaseproof paper, leave to dry for about 10 minutes, then repeat the process. (We had to do it three times before the chocolate was thick enough.)
Put the mould into the fridge till it completely solidifies. We left ours for a couple of hours, though sugarcraft books suggest it should be far quicker than that - about 20 minutes. Extract the eggs by gently pulling the sides of the mould outwards (very tricky) and to glue the two halves together, dip the edge of one into molten chocolate then hold it against the other half to complete the egg.

Hard boil eggs. Fill several mugs with boiling water and add 1-2 tsp. vinegar. Place a few drops of desired food coloring in each mug. Place eggs in mugs for several minutes until eggs reach desired shades.
Remove with a spoon. Place on paper towel to dry. When dry, polish with a small amount of shortening on a paper towel. Buff until glossy.
You can draw or write on the eggs with a light colored or white crayon before dipping. The drawing will remain white after the egg is dipped.
To clean out mugs, put a little bleach water in the cups and soak for a few minutes.
