I've tried a couple but I keep ending up with nothing but a half burnt DVD as the programs stall or fail in some way halfway through the burn.

If you've got a mac Toast 8.0.1 is the way to go. You can download it from a variety of torrent sites or go to the Toast website if you're a more conscientious member of society. If its a P.C. you can use the latest version of Nero. Not sure if it's as good though...
