I wore a french wool hand crocheted floor length body hugging gown that had long sleeves and a high neck and was just off white. I did have the first one made in snow white and it didn't look right. But I did keep the white one anyway, I just had the sleeves removed and dress shortened up above the knees.
My second wedding I wore a white princess style gown with off the shoulder puffed sleeves, a cinched waist and a full floor length skirt and the whole thing was trimmed with pearls and sparklies and rosettes. I even wore a veil.
And my husband still remembers every detail, he says it was a memory burn, that I was the bride he always dreamed of seeing at the altar.
So, women should definitely wear whatever they want on their wedding day, whether they are virgins and marrying for the first time or not. I wouldn't trade the look in my husband's eyes when he remembers that day for all of the social correctness that a more traditional second bridal outfit would have brought me.
Huh uh dear, white is the perogative of the bride no matter what any old biddies or women with sticks up their butts will tell you.

Wearing white becuase you are a virgin is just an OLD tradition. A lot of virgin brides wear white and red, or a mixture of some other colors. On my second marriage (I had a 2 and 3 year old at the time, I wore a beautiful white gown with pastel floral stitching on the bodice, it pleased the "older" crowd, and I still got to wear my white dress. Good luck with your upcoming marriage. I wish you nothing but the best!!!

When I got married not only did I wear a white, long gown, veil and all but I did so while being 7 months pregnant with my 2 year old daughter as the flower girl. Times have changed, the white dress doesn't symbolize virtue anymore, well least not to me.

I'm not I'm wearing Ivory, but you can't really tell its not white...unless I stand next to something that is white. We have two sons and our oldest (also 2 years) is our ring bearer. I just decided that even though it's not a significant difference between the white and Ivory...the white really did wash me out when I tried it on.

Mine was actually ivory and even though I think the white wedding dress for virgins only is an outdated idea I thought I would relate my story. I had already purchased my dress and we were being married by a minister is a very oldfashioned country church. A week before the wedding when we went for our counseling with the preacher, he asked me what color my dress was, I replied ivory, he said he was glad to hear it because he didn't want me lying to the lord. I was stunned and embarrassed but it worked out fine or me anyway.

I'm not getting married until October, but I've already got my dress. No, I'm not a virgin, but my dress is ivory. (I picked ivory because I'm very pale and don't look good in stark white.)
You know, it isn't the white dress that is a symbol of virginity--it's a full length white veil. The white dress came into play when Queen Victoria got married, because she found one she really loved. Before that, everyone got married in blue dresses (which is where the "something blue" comes from).

The wearing of a white dress has nothing to do with your virgin status. That myth was perpetuated by American puritanicals. It is actually a tradition started in England a couple centuries ago by a royal who was getting married, and then society folks just started copying it.

I don't think many women are virgins- and most of them does wear white- I did it b/c it's a traditional wedding color and it's really nobody's business whether I'm a virgin or no (it's between the woman and her husband, that's all.)
