Be nice, pleasant and friendly, not too friendly, just don't make waves, eyes are everywhere, and people just mostly keep to themselves. Keep your wallet and passport in your front pocket. Don't give money to anyone who begs, kids, adults etc. Look like you know where you are going. Dress down, don't be flashy or look like a tourist. Don't get into the cabs at the station with the guys coming up to you and offering to take you whereever, that is exactly where you will end up. Take medicines for everything you can think of. Food sanitation is not the same as it is here(although recently, it hasn't been real good, but better than there). Always buy bottled water, look for the one made by Coke. Try to find "Coffee Shop" style restaurants, they are the most like western style there. And you may find someone who actually can say a few words in english. It's a beautiful country in places, but the city overall is dirty. People spit, do their personal hygiene in the open, throw their trash on the ground, smoke everywhere they can,get in front of you in a line, don't apologize and stare. You can post another question about other things and I will try to answer if you like any of the information I have offered. I have lived there off and on for the past 20 years. Learned alot about what to and not to do. Hope this helps some.

Welcome to China - my home country!
Well, it's a large country with large population! It's a country with over 5000 years glorious history and civilization, as well as the booming economy! In China, when we say some place is old, it normally is several thousand years old. People are friendly, and with great hospitality.
If this is your first time to China, be polite to the local culture, tradition and custom, you will learn a lot as well as gain a lot from your trip!
