Exercise will work, but apple shaped people tend to benefit more from dieting than anythihg else. Diet like crazy and get down to 70% of youor daily caloric need, also go in for colonic hydrotherapy, this will releieve some of the intestinal gas and bloating and get another inch out of you.

Well what I would say is when you do sit ups suck your belly in, it should make your abdominal muscles stronger and eventually you will be able to suck your belly in without trying. Try jogging in the morning for like 20min and don't eat breakfast before your morning jog, eat right after. This should increase your metabolism through out the whole day, you also can run at night but, running in the morning is better because running at night will make your metabolism faster but when you sleep it will get slower and slower, Eat 4 to 5 SMALL HEALTHY meals a day. Also you can try to Google some more info. Now about losing weight you can only lose 1 to 2 pounds a week 2lbs is the max weight you can lose, more than that it's bad and unhealthy for you. Do a lot of aerobic exercises and anaerobic like sprinting for 30 seconds .

It is wrongly believed that can you can lose weight only in certain parts of the body. Some areas "bulge" or appear more fat due to the lack of muscles. Doing common abdominal exercises like sit-ups, crunches and leg raises only helps in the toning and firming of stomach muscles. If the stomach muscles are stronger, the waist may appear slightly smaller. More information can be found at http://www.toloseweight.org/losestomachfat.html

I've done 20- 30 mins. of jogging/ walking, then I do (Mind you, you're just starting out) 40 crunches. I mix up the way I do the crunches. search the internet for various styles. I then try to eat sensibly and stay hydrated.

if you drink soda, stop! especially dark soda
and start walking. walking burns calories and also helps to build muscle tone around your waist, hips, and thighs.
I have the same problem since i've been over 30 and it sucks!! Good luck!
