I had a infected sebaceous cyst and now I have a "hole" after the cyst opened spontaneously. I do not know if a can use antibiotic directly in an open wound.

If it's infected, go to the doctor or clinic. Also, yes soap and warm water to clean, then neosporin.

You didnt say what kind of wound big or little. A Big infected wound needs to be seen by a Doctor. But if your talking about a small open cut or scrapped area. Wash it well with an antibacterial soap such as Dial at least twice a day apply antibacterial ointment and and dry bandaid. If its not better after a couple days increases in redness area the wound or drains thick nasty stuff do to your doctor or prompt care.

Hi there,

Depending on how deep the cut is you may want to see your doctor, especially if stitches are necessary. Otherwise, keep the cut clean. If it's a deep cut you may want to bandage it lightly to keep dirt out but the air will help it heal faster. I prefer using Tea Tree oil instead of polysporin but it works well too. Off all the different types, I found that the triple action one (vit Vitamin E added) works best; go for the generic brand as it's by far much cheaper that the brand name. Witch Hazel is also good for cuts and bruises and so is Rosehip oil. These can be applied directly to the skin safely. You can add them to another carrier oil or vaseline (if you prefer to use an ointment). More traditional ointments often invlove heating/melting lard with the herbs.

Cheers.

Depending on the amount of infection, keeping the wound clean and exposed to the air is the best option. Any type of covering on an infected wound will slow down healing.

However, if it is a minor wound, adding some triple antibiotic cream and covering temporarily with clean gauze will be effective; once the antibiotic cream is absorbed, expose the wound. You need to make sure that the wound is not exposed to any dirty or unsanitary conditions though.

Honey!! No seriously it's a natural anticeptic. Ancient Egytians used to use it for wounds and even Hemotep himself used it. If you don't know he was actually the first person known to have done brain surgery and yes the person lived for years afterwards.

Rubbing salt into the wound sounds like torture but it has its benifits as it draws out toxins and infection epson salt followed by peroxide followed by triple anti biotic ointment should help this as it helped me with spider bites the Dr.s could not.

antibiotics and saline solution to clean out the infection. if it is infected and really deep you need to see the doctor because the infection can spread if this is on your foot don't wait because it can get bad enough for gangrene to set in. most over the counter medications state right on them not to be used on open or deep cuts.

Hydrogen peroxide to clean it out, then some antibiotic ointment to kill the bacteria and then seal it with a band aid until it scabs over. Then let the air heal it the rest of the way.
