You can try to make a life long plan for the dog. With your age, you'll have to show that you are thinking ahead. Address all these things:
What happens in 5 years when you go off to college? A dog may live 15 years and you certainly can't take him with you to a dorm. Finding a pet friendly apartment while on a college budget may be difficult as well.
What happens to the dog while you are at school, right now? A puppy needs to go outside every half hour or so, and that's hard to do when in Professor Flitwick's math class 10 miles away. And JRTs need LOTS of attention and exercise - they can't just be left home all day.
How are you going to pay for vet bills? If the dog has a serious emergency, a vet bill can easily reach $2000. Can you afford this now? Will you be able to afford this when you are in college?
What happens when you are in school full time and working, playing sports, studying, or hanging out with friends? Most dogs need to be around people. You can't get one and expect it to be happy being at home, alone, 8+ hours at a time.
Back to college, if you take the dog with you, what if he eats your Easter chocolate the week of finals? You'll have to rush him to the emergency vet ($500), possibly have him stay several days ($100+ a day), and then have him come home and be monitored. It's hard to take finals when you are at home making sure that your dog isn't dying.
Have you done research on where to get a dog and the kind of dog that fits your needs? Or are you picking a certain breed because you saw it in a movie, on TV, or some other media source? Have you researched rescue groups or how to pick a good breeder? How will a dog be paid for? Do you know the BAD places to get a dog?

In all honesty, children always mean best when they say they will care for a pet. However, in my experience, that lasts about a week, MAYBE a month. The first cold day of winter, and the child doesn't want to take the dog for a walk. The first serious test, and the studying child doesn't want to feed the dog. The first holiday, and the child wants to up & leave, without the pet. The first pile of vomit, the child suddenly has a tummy ache or a back ache.
The key is to be honest with your parents. Tell them that while you hope to take care of the dog, you *will* need their help. Have them make the decision as a family. If it isn't going to work, then leave it until you are out of college and can make the decision on your own. There will always be plenty of dogs out there. : )

I absolutely love jack russells and I have one now. Just be prepared they have soooosooo much energy and need a lot of walks throughout the day. So I don't know how old you are but if you are in school....you're mom is going to be the one taking care of the dog all day....and believe me they can drive people crazy. If you haven't had a dog before I would suggest getting something a little calmer and not so high maintenance. Jack russells need a lot of training and socializing otherwise they can be quite a handful. You really need hours each day to walk and play with them.
I would just tell her how important it is to have a dog growing up and show her how you are responsible in other areas of your life.

You'll need to demonstrate you are ready. Keep in mind there are other factors such as money (dogs cost money up front and for upkeep), time issues, exercise issues (the dog needs it), space issues and such. This is a committment, you need to show you are in it for the long haul. You can go to the library or various website to research dog training and then demonstrate your knowledge and desires. Hopefully this gives you something to think about.
Best of luck.

First you must live in a dog friendly place (a fenced yard). You must prove your ability and desire to complete your tasks reliably and without complaint. Keeping your room clean without being told to goes a long way to prove you are mature enough to follow through.
Cost may be a big factor and you may have to give up something (instead of soda/pop drink water or instead of a movie ticket wait for it to be on TV) to afford the dog.
Dog=work, consistency and love...be certain you are ready to commit.

Jack russells are a breeze to housebreak. I have one and it only took her 3 days to figure it out. They are super smart and easy to train with positive methods. Plus they are small and do not cost that much to feed. The smooth ones are easy to maintain plus they are cute!

Most parent hesitate or say no because they don't think you will take care of it and feel as though they will have to walk it, feed it and clean up after it. Show her that you can be responsible and that you want get tired of it after a few months like and old toy.

1st- DO you clean your room?.... as a mom, I can tell you that dogs are more than a little responsibility. Cleaning your room is only a start but a good one-Try picking up after yourself and showing your mom how responsible you really are.

On a piece of paper, write out all the good things about having a dog. Make sure you mention that YOU will take care of it, walk it, etc. You gotta show that you are responsible enough to have it!

If you really want a dog then you should say to her that you will be responsible and make sure it gets taken care of.A dog is just like a baby and make sure it gets its needs.
