Ok..... so who else is getting sick of people here on Y!A posing religious questions that seem like "normal" questions about what other people/religions believe, but when you click onto them they are mostly just that person preaching their religion & giving reasons why they feel you should believe their way is the right way?!

Not to generalize, but I notice the majority of people who do this are christians... Not all but most. Personally, i am agnostic/bordeline-atheist.... I don't mind answering someone's general questions about beliefs.... but if it is just the bait to try to make people see your way that is when i get frustrated.

It's like... the question will be "Atheists: Why do you believe what you believe?" and the body of the question will continue by saying "When my god says that if you do not believe in him you will be cast into hell with the rest of the non-believers. The bible says...blah blah blah..." and they go on trying to make you see their way.

Anyone else sick of it?

Just as a humorous addition:

Zero Cool: In my original post I wanted to use the word proselytize but i couldn't remember the exact spelling so i looked it up on dictionary.com through their thesaurus for the word "convert".... I found proselytize & i clicked it to find it's synonyms. It was amusing to me that "brainwash" was one of the words that came up.

I also love the way the few christians who have answered so far have immediately taken offense & haven't tried to communicate their thoughts on my opinion....aside from "blessing" me from their god.

Thank you to moonbeam for being the first christian to answer this question in a way that was not necessarily negative towards me. Excellent answer as well!

i'm a christian and i tire of that attitude. even amongst christians there exist so many differences of opinions, and there will always be people who are overly zealous, competitive or just plain obnoxious about any given subject i guess!!!!

but, what tires me even more are all the christian bashers. some of the answers are just uncalled for. they are mean and have no place in a forum such as this one.

thanks for asking........i appreciate having the opportunity to express my feelings too!

blessings!

Exactly... what's with all the proselytizing?? And they're "tricky" about it too, you're right. Why is deception necessary? Do they really feel the need to dupe the "unsaved" into accidental salvation? If the ends justify the means, I suppose... but it's still a violation of TOS. If someone is using Y!A as their own personal pulpit, feel free to report them.

It's a nice demonstration of the incredible arrogance of the believer.

We can only hope that they eventually tear each other apart, like the Shia vs. the Sunni, the Jews vs. the Muslims, and the Episcopalians vs. the Episcopalians.

people that have such a high ego are going to assume another person isnt perfect, unless they believe as the person with the ego.

in other words: misery loves company (yes im well aware christians are miserable, because i was one for many years)

I always report the proselytizers, They aren't really asking a question and therefore out of place on this forum.

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of it. We could be having interesting interfaith dialogues here but no, no way that;s happening.

I find myself skipping a lot of those types of questions because I got tired of them, too. It's annoying, but what can you do?

Possibly to lay a foundation or history for others to answer their question in more detail should they lack any information relevant to the question itself.

Theists find it hard to understand that there are people who don't share their beliefs, much like carnivores don't grasp the reasons behind herbivores.
