They're basically "Sister" companies. Lexus is more of a higher version of Toyota (in price, style, manufacturing, etc) but somewhat the same company.

Apparently, Mr. Knowitall doesn't know it all. Mazda does NOT make Infiniti, Nissan does.
Logistically, they are the same company. Toyota makes all of the cars: Toyota, Lexus, and Scion. But they brand their products differently to reflect the type of customers they're trying to attract: Lexus=luxury, Toyota=regular, Scion=economy. Lexus is actually a created brand for the US market. You'll see the same Lexus cars with Toyota emblems in the Japanese market. For example, the Lexus IS is called the Toyota Altezza in Japan.
Nissan and Honda do the same for the Infiniti and Acura brands in the US.

lexus is a high-end toyota builder who builds cars that share many similar parts with toyotas. they tune them differently in most cases, but more or less look the same.
