You can't tell. My dad had a heart-lung disease, he could walk fine -for a few steps. As soon as he had to walk any distance at all he would get out of breath but when parked right in front of the store you wouldn't see any different about him. I'm sure some people abuse the system and borrow their husband's/wife's/father's/mother's car with the handicapped tags, but there are plenty of handicaps that aren't obvious at first glance.

Oh, I see, you have now become a doctor, and can immediately diagnose 100% of all medical symptoms just by looking at someone when they leave their car?

Shame on you.
Not all special needs are visible to the untrained eye.

Also, ever think that perhaps the person in question was having a good day, but on other days they can barely walk, or must use a wheelchair? This is the situation I used to be in - fortunately, my condition is no longer that serious, and I gave up my placard years ago.
But if anyone had been so grossly rude as to ask me that question, they would have recieved an earful, and then some!

People must get a doctor's certification to get a placard. I'll still with the a doctor's judgement over a hothead's, thanks.

Some handicaps are not visible to strangers. My son was weak from his illness, and could not walk very far. Yet, he looked fit enough to strangers.

My brother, too, was handicapped. He had a lung problem and cold hardly walk at all.

One day, a woman saw my brother parking his car in a handicapped spot. She started yelling "Hey! You're not handicapped! Get out of there!"

My brother patiently explained, "Yes I am. I happen to be a sexual deviate. And what REALLY turns me on is big women who drive big black Lincolns!"

She took off like a shot! And I fell down, I laughed so hard!

Some people have heart or breathing problems that limit how far they can walk. (But then they go into the mall in the AM and join the Seniors Mall Walk group. Go figure.)

I think what they need to do is put all the handicap wheelchair and scooter parking at the far end of the parking lot. That way no one will steal their parking spots and if they have an electric powered scooter or chair, the extra distance is not going to cause them a problem anyway.

Some people do have handicaps that are not obvious......HOWEVER it is very frustrating to see someone who seems to be walking perfectly fine all over the mall only to get into their handicap-parking-space car....

If they have a handicapped sticker in their window, then there's no problem and they are authorized to park there. Not all handicap's are obvious.

What I don't like is when lazy people park there because it's closer, or it's the last spot available in the lot. If you don't have a sticker, don't park there. It's rude and inconsiderate.

Not all handicaps can be seen by the naked eye....

my sister has a handicap- cerebral palsy that makes it hard for her to walk. she has the blue sticker for the window but if you were to take a look at her, she looks normal.

It could be a heart, lung, head or back problem. Who knows.

I see it but since i cannot judge anyone i dont worry about it. If they werent meant to be in the spot odds are theywouldnt be unless they wanted to get a ticket.

Yes. But we can't really be the ones to judge. Maybe we can't see the obvious reason. I asked a similar question like this a few months ago or so, and one lady said she has one because of her doctor demanded her to get one. Some people's diabetes could make them get a sign and they don't want one.

But yes, it seems like they are handing them out left and right. And at a local mall in my area, they even have parking for expectant mothers.

Come on guys its not such a terrible question, you can answer it without getting all hysterical.

Some people have handicaps that aren't that obvious. If a person has severe diabetes or a heart/lung condition they can't really walk very far, although they walk fine for short distances.

I am disabled. Most of the time I look pretty good getting out of the truck and going into the store - unless it has already been a bad day and I'm going to use my mobility scooter - sometimes I use the scooters inside the store (that the store provides) instead of hauling mine out of the truck. However, even when I have riden a scooter through the store, I am sore coming out the store and am visibly limping. I am very happy to have the truck close to the door (sometimes my hubby or kids have to pull up to pick me up I am so sore and tired). So, don't judge by how people look getting out of their car.

My mother-in-law has a heart condition - she doesn't limp but does get out of breath when she walks - that might not be very noticeable to you.
