The half life is 27-32 hours. Don't take it if you don't want to. There are so many different medications for anxiety and depression that your doctor can work with you and find one that does help-- w/o the nasty side effects.

That stuff made me constantly hungry and feeling like a zombie, I don't blame you at all for not wanting to take it.

If this is the first pill you have taken, you haven't had time for your body to get any benefits from it yet. It actually takes weeks for those kind of meds to even begin working. Dont be scared. The Lexapro will help you. I have been on anti depressants and SSRI's for many many years now for anxiety disorder and depression. I can almost guarantee that you will feel better when it begins to work for you than you will feel living with whatever condition you have that the doc prescribed it for. Dont worry, keep taking them and give them time to work for you, unless they are causing a problem for you. If that is the case then talk to your doctor. I am always nervous when I start new meds too so I really understand how you are feeling. There is very little or no chance that the Laxapro could hurt you .

Lexapro and all other antidepressant/antianxiety medicines take at least 2-3 weeks to show effect. They are not immediately effective like tranquilizers. In fact, initially they give side effects like dizziness, headache or stomach upset, but eventually, in a few days, side effects resolve and benefits start coming in. If you have been diagnosed with depression or an anxiety disorder, you need to continue lexapro if it has been prescribed by a psychiatrist. It's otherwise very safe.

I am not a Doctor. I am however a psychiatric social worker. You have anxiety and depression? Why don't you want to take it and feel better? The one pill won't be a problem. If your dr. prescribed them there must be a reason. Lexapro is up to now a good drug.

Why exactly are you scared of it? If it is doctor prescribed it could be very helpful. My husband suffered with panic attacks that crippled him...there were times he couldn't even leave the house...he now takes Lexapro in 20mg, and it has changed his life. At first, it made him queasy, drowsy, and a little light-headed, but after 2 weeks, the side effects ceased.

I think it takes about 2 weeks for you to get used to it.
It might feel weird at first. If you really need it, why do you want to go off of it?

Did you take someone else's lexapro?? That would not be a good idea.

About 24 hours. If you have problems with it, don't just NOT take it. Call your doctor.
