When you're putting up wallpaper and want to put up the matching boarder can you put the wall paper all the way up and then put the boarder over it ,or must you only put the wallpaper up so far as to leave room for the boarder?

Thanks to all for the answers so far. To Aunt Bee, I like wall paper and that's all that matters to me. Thank you for your opinion but I'm stilll going with wall paper.

Pepper, I hate to tell you, but you are on the leading edge of the return of wallpaper. It is going through a tremendous resurgence. Even Ty uses it on the show. I would suggest leaving off the border. They are really cheesy. If you REALLY want the border, put in in the middle of the wall. Also, you need to buy a tube of vinyl-to-vinyl paste to adhere it. Regular paste won't stick to wallpaaper. Go for IT. It's going to look great, and you're going to love it!

Yes - you can put the boarder over the wallpaper; however, you will need to purchase some wallpaper paste and apply it to the boarder (even if it is pre-pasted). Because you are putting it over vinyl, the pre-pasted boarder won't be able to cling to the surface if you don't add extra paste.

Side note:
Why are you papering? Wallpaper is pretty outdated and actually decreases the value of your home as potential buyers just look at it as something that they will have to take down.

I only put the wallpaper up to where the border will meet it. A waste of wallpaper to take it all the way to the ceiling or midwall, whichever you are doing. Just make sure the border is hung evenly around the room if you are doing wallpaper half way up the wall.

You can do it either way. I think it is easier to put the border up over the paper. You may need a different adhesive though. Regular pre-pasted border will not stick to vinyl coated paper. You need to use border paste that stick to vinyl.
Aunt Bea is right wallpaper is OUT.

If you want them both, I would put the border on last, over top of the other, That way you don't have troubles getting the edge of the wallpaper even with the border.

I even have placed a clean border over an cutting-edge one, that stayed up. even in spite of the undeniable fact that the hot border became pre pasted I used a wallpaper paste especially made for borders. it rather is offered at a ironmongery shop.
