Hello, i own a 1999 f-150 4.6L v8 with 100,000 miles. I use mid grade (89octane) fuel. I do this because my engine seems to rattle on 87octane. Anyways, i have noticed recently that if i quickly push the pedal down, it seems to spudder(i believe that would be the propper term) kind of like it is not getting fuel. I love this truck so much and i want it to be in better running condition. Any suggestions on treatments for the engine? I really need help!! Thanks for your time and consideration. ps...check engine light is NOT on

your probably need new spark plugs. i have seen this problem in the 4.6 before the spark plugs are platinum there a little more expensive than a normal spark plug but there suppose to last about 100,000 miles. most of the time they start sputtering at about 80,000 miles.so if these are the original ones you made it longer than most. the bummer on this one is there expensive to change. there kind of a pain to change. the good news is after there changed you can probably run 87 octane in the end. good luck

Try 2 things...
First , because it is cheap, add 8 ounces of mythyl hydrate to gas tank. If water has built up in there over the years, this "gas-line antifreeze" will absorb the water. Cost, under $2 as methyl hydrate in hardware store..

If that doesn't work, change your fuel filter, It is easy do it yourself job, just make sure you pay attention to fuel flow direction on filter.

If that doesn't work, you will have to go to more expensive diagnosis.

Probably your fuel filter. Try a new one and see what happens. Just a little piece of advice, that's high mileage, I would run 93 all the time.
