A prefabricated home is not the same thing as a modular home. A modular home is built in it's entirety and then moved to either a temporary of permanent location while a prefabricated home is simply built in stages in a factory. The walls, floors, roof etc are built separately and shipped to a permanent home site where they are assembled. The interior and exterior finishes are done on site as one would with any other home. A prefabricated home is usually quite a bit cheaper to build as they are created assembly style and are relatively easy to put together. When finished, they look like any other home and are a great choice for someone on a tight budget or for the do-it-yourselfer!

Prefabricated just means it was built or partially build off site. Usually in climate controlled indoor conditions. You can get a custom pre-fabricated home.

A prefabricated house is sort of like a mail order house. Everything you need to build the house is included in the purchase. The purchaser just needs to build it.

Think of building blocks. You can get a prefabricated house of parts that were built in a factory and put together onsite.

The joists for the roof, walls and sometimes the flooring are made in a factory; then trucked to the location for assembling. It makes the housing project be built faster.
Some prefab houses are mobile homes or a Quonset hut construction ready to use once the plumbing/electricity is in place.

A prefab house is put together in parts while still in the factory, then taken to a building site & all is assembled there.
