I think my sister has a gastrointestinal infection as she has diarrhea and is vomiting, but no fever. How can she get better? Does she need antibiotics or can it be dealt with without them?

Buy some Kaeopectate and give her that. I hope she feels better soon. She probably would not be given anti-biotics. Be careful of dehydration, though. She needs to try and sip something with electrolytes in it ... Gatoraide, pedialyte, etc.

She does not need antibiotics. Keep her well hydrated. See that she is passing adequate urine. Give her Pedialyte, at least one glass per stool or vomit, sipped slowly. She can also take plain water and fresh fruit juice. Give her soft food like yogurt, rice, bananas, apples.
