There is a man who did research on one branch of my family tree, and managed to get the family geneology back to the 10th century. The only problem is that he lives in Munich, Germany and I have never met him. He managed to break through the 17th century barrior I never managed to get through. Doyou think it would it be okay to try and get that information from him, I can speak German so it wouldn't be much of language problem, what would do?

Most researchers that i've met/communicated with are more than happy to share their research - I have yet to find anyone who says no... and I do my best to do the same. I found a ton on my Swedish ancestors through a Swedish researcher - it can never hurt to ask.

Why would you be afraid to speak with this man?

This is your family. I am wondering why he did research though, is he also family or has he done the research for someone else?

If he is an attorney or an agent with connections as most of these professional genealogists are, then you may have to pay something for the info.

But I don't see why you would not try to talk to him about your request.

What can you loose?

10th century wow mine only goes back to the 1600s

If you are curious about your roots, why not call him? Just be polite and explain what you hope he can provide to you. You never know... you might find long lost family. Of course, once you find out you might not want to admit being part of it! lol
