I have had 4 dogs that were pure breeds BUT..... it was very clear that they were nothing but pet quality dogs. They looked like what they were but had many faults that would prevent them from breeding. Two had AKC papers but that was a farce. Very poor specimens of the breeds.
That was before I knew anything about gene tic's, breed standards and performance. I have no need for a Pedigreed dog cause I would have a hard time culling the litter. Saving only the ones that would grow up to be quality dogs. Knowing that maybe 2 out of 6 would be quality dogs.
Most all of the dogs I have owned were rescues. So a true pure breed dog I have never owned.
I would love to have a couple of Dobermans that are pure breed but I have never had room for any other dogs. I seem to keep a full house of mutts.

I really believe that breeding should be either haulted or highly limited. There is no good reason for breeding for profit when there are millions of animals, innocent animals, being put down everyday because they do not have homes to go to. Besides, a mixed bred has been scientifically proven to have less health problems than pure-breeds.

You should really ask youself why you want a "Purebred"? Essentially a purebred dog has a lineage of inbreeding. This is what purebred is. It arose from the English class system from royalty and pure blood, where the aristocracy inbred with each other to keep the wealth in the family, therebye creating a "class system". This practice was then done with dogs as a "false" class** system. There are many dogs that are almost purebred and much healthier. Id suggest these dogs above any else. They resemble the breed physically, and have less chance of heriditary diseases. If your fascination is with "inbred dogs" which is what "Purebred" are... Be warned that most breeds have the potential of certain problems associated with them. I.E German Shepards and hip dysplasia. Or dalmations and blindness. The list goes on and on. Ultimately a mixed breed dog is a healthier dog. I suggest you shop around for dogs that look similar to the breed you want but are still mixed.
**"class" is not in reference to scientific nomenclature for the taxonomy of species.

I live in the Denver area. I have a Chinese Crested hairless dog. He's an absolute joy. I've had many dogs over the years and as behavior goes, he's by far the best I've had. A little pricey, but it is totally worth it!
I will give you the info about my breeder if you send me a PM. I'm not going to publish her info on here. Too many wack-jobs :)

I have a pure breed West Highland Terrier (Westie), my breeder is great.
What I recommend is first you really look into what kind of breed is best suited for you and then once you've decided on a breed start looking for a breeder. Be careful though, really investigate the breeder, because some of them could be puppy millers! Do your homework!

Miniature long hair Dachshund. She is a cutie! We got her from a local breeder. Best to find a breeder near where you live. Most will take the dog back if there are incompatabilities once you get it home. Also, easier to go visit and see if you even like the type of dog.
