Puppy broke his canine tooth and its bleeding... what to do?

Question

I have a 4 month old puppy. He really bites everything he sees and this morning, he happened to bite my pants. As usual, I shacked my pants so he could get off me.

But then I noticed his top canine tooth broke off. I took a look at it and it must have been atleast half of the tooth. You can actually see the inner whole of the tooth going straight down.

After I took a look at him, I noticed he was bleeding from his broken tooth.

What should I do???

I have no idea on what to do, and its a bit worrysome.

However, im on a tight budget, and im not sure if I have to money for a vet as of now.

If it was i human i'd take it to the dentist for a fake tooth. but for a dog i'd just wait it out it sort if is his fault i'd take him to the vet to make sure

Phone the vets and explain to them what has happened and if there is anything you can do. They may be able to give you information over the phone, without you having to go and actually see the vet. It should be ok. Puppies lose their teeth anyway and this has happened to me with my puppies in the past and we have taken them to the vets, though no teeth were extracted and they just cleaned the area around the tooth and said to keep an eye on it. If it's bleeding a lot and there's no let-up then I don't really know what else to do, other than see a vet, but that's not an option. If it's only bleeding a little bit, I wouldn't worry too much. Keep his mouth clean with salt water and to stop the bleeding apply some pressure, though your puppy may not be very happy about it. Good luck and I hope you sort something out soon. I know what it's like when you're on a tight budget.

As people have already said, this is probably just a puppy tooth - however if part of the tooth is still in the gums, he needs veterinary attention as soon as possible.

Rinse his mouth out with some warm salt water, and make an appointment today, if possible. Try to stop the bleeding with a bit of gauze and applied pressure - though the puppy may not allow you to do this.

This can quickly turn into a nasty mouth infection if not cleaned properly and treated - and nerves could possibly be exposed. The tooth may even need to be removed.

at this age the puppies are losing their baby teeth, in turn for their adult teeth. They bite and chew alot because theire teeth hurt. I'd just watch this tooth so it dont become infected. More than likely in a couple of weeks, you'll see a new adult tooth coming in. If the tooth is in fact broken, you might try to wiggle it and see if it'll come out itself with a little help from you. Just keep a good eye on it and give the puppy plenty of chew toys and NYLABONES ! and fresh water constantly.

if it was a puppy tooth then don't worry about it, at four months a dog is shedding the puppy teeth and at that point most of them are brittle and can break half way off and blood is part of loosing teeth as long as the dog is not depressed or bleeding alot, if the tooth starts to look swollen around the gums or is real painful then go to the vet other wise it's sorta normal, dogs loose teeth and bleed alittle you just don't see it, and get him or her a rope toy this is so good for a dog sheding teeth and sometimes you can keep a tooth that gets cought in the rope

It is a milk tooth that has broken but it still needs to be taken care of. You should bring your pup to the vets and have them evaluate weather it should be pulled out or just smoothed over so your pup does not cut his tongue or lip on the broken tooth.
You should call the vet as son as possible to have this looked at.

if it doesnt stop bleeding within an hour take him to the vet to have it removed. otherwise the nerve (which is what you are seeing) will draw itself back down into the tooth. if its a puppy tooth then he will eventually lose it. otherwise if he shows no signs of discomfort ( such as whinning or not eating) then he will be fine.
