Has anyone ever tried this little green fairy Absinthe? If so do you really get that drunk off of it you start hallucinating?

Never had it. Supposedly it's now available in the U.S., but I wonder if it's the "real deal".

I've tried Absinthe, the stuff I had was about 140-160 proof (70-80 percent alcohol.) Drank it straight- 3 shots. My threshold for getting drunk is 8 ounces of 80 proof alcohol and a shot contains more than one ounce. I am not sure if I reached drunkeness, but it didn't feel like I had been drinking at all- I was high. It's a really good feeling but shortlived (unless you drink more.) I did hallucinate- but it happened the morning after I drank that stuff (drank it in the night) and it wasn't pleasent- I saw a strange man standing up above me by the couch I was sleeping on and there were also a whole bunch of bats flying around the ceiling. Seeing hallucinations while high of the drink would be great, but maybe next time. Thujone alone has failed to make me hallucinate- but the combination of thujone, alcohol (and possibly the other ingredients although im thinking it's only those two that matter but I could be wrong.) cause more of a high than a drunkiness unless you go overboard in which I could imagine being really high (I don't think it makes you drunk- could be wrong but I think thujone cancells out the drunk qualities of alcohol- you would probably be really high and seeing really weird things, or just be really high and wake up with a hangover and terrifying hallucinations. So be careful - lol. Fun stuff but dangerous.

Absinthe is one of my all time favorite drinks...love it love it love it..never had hallucinations though, and I had polished off over a bottle with one other person.
The absYnthe they sell in the USA has no wormwood, and isn't as good as the real stuff from overseas.
get a box of sugar cubes and some nice glasses ready if you do mail order it..and make sure you also order the absinthe spoon..hate not having everything ready and the delivery comes at night!! lol

You just experience the same as any other alcohol. There are no hallucinations (any more than if you're drunk on any other booze). It's all part of the hype.

Anybody who tells you of hallucinations and how bad for you it is has never had absinthe.

I haven't tried it, but I'd like to.

Absinthe is legal for purchase and possession in the US, but it's not legal for sale. It would be completely legal for a US citizen to purchase a bottle online from overseas, and have it shipped to them.

Absinthe works because it contains a fairly high concentration of alcohol (around 50%, some spirits have a much higher concentration), combined with thujone, a chemical present in some aromatic plants. Thujone has a chemical structure similar to THC, the hallucinogen the gives marijuana its potency.

I tried it. It's very strong but I didn't hallucinate. I had to get it from the Czech Republic. Don't think you can get it in the US.

Its illegal in the US but I've seen it sold online. Its made from Wormwood and yeah...it has hallucenogenic qualities. It was popular with the post impression crowd (VanGogh, Lautrec, Cezane) in the mid 1800s in Paris.
Stuff will kill you though.

Yes I've tried it, straight too! Not recommended. My throat wouldn't stand it for me to have enough to get drunk.
And I get mine from the Tesco's at Five Ways
