I have an old female cat, and two younger males. All have been fixed. But, most of the time my girl won't use the litter box. We keep it as clean & fresh as possible. But, she'll do her thing either in front of it or just off to the side, on the floor! I've sprayed the areas with vinager, & tried other household items, as a deterant; & I've even tried the pet repellants from the stores, but nothing seems to stop her. I never had much of a problem with her in the past. But now, I just don't know what to do. Does anyone have any ideas to help us?

First, get her checked out by a vet. Urinating outside the litter box is a common side effect of a urinary tract infection.

Ideally, you should have one more litter box than you do cats. In other words, three cats = four litter boxes. You could also try changing the brand of litter you use. Some cats have or develop strong preferences.

Maybe she's not accustomed to the younger male cats. Some jealous tension by not peeing in the same litter box. Or like that girl said, "maybe it's a urinary tract infection.

Magic word....Old !
You can try buying a brand new cat box and different litter.
My 11 year old started this also and really nothing worked.
He is now an outside cat and has done quit well a adjusting to it. I tried bringing him back in but he still refused to use the box's. I put 5 down in different places...
Good luck....but it seems to be an older cat trait.

1. Get a second litter box, perhaps she doesn't go to the one that has been used by the other cats.
2. Get her checked for a urinary tract infection.

Take her to the vet and make sure there is nothing wrong with her talk to him about it and take it from there.GOOD LUCK!!!!

On top of what the other people have said, I'd look into a covered litterbox is you have an open one, or an open one if you have a covered.

Also look and consider if she has a hard time getting into the litterbox, some older animals have join problems,a nd it might be painful for her to climb into it.

She might have a urinary tract infection or she could just be marking her territory.
