My 7 year old chocolate lab ( Male ) has hip dysplacia and arthritis. Use Glucosamine/Chondroitin
750.................600...complex
I use Members mark from Sam's club.
They eat it like a treat. Start off with 4 a day for a month and down to 2 a day after. Sometimes it takes a couple of months to see the difference, but it sure helped my dog that could almost not walk. My vet said to do it so it is safe if you want to question it...Call a vet an ask.

Get her in water.Swimming is the best exercise as the water holds her weight off the joints.
Glucosomine/chrondroitin twice daily for the rest of her life.call vet for dosage-has to be given by weight to be effective.Keep a bottle of Bayer aspirin on hand for really bad days.Again-call vet for dosage.has to be given by weight. For no mmore than 3 days straight or it could possibly cause liver damage.
Keep a heating pad handy.Set it on medium and hold the pad on the affected areas for 5-10 minutes and massage the area for 15 minutes 3 times a day.
Try to keep her off concrete. It's alot harder on the joints when walking than the ground is.
And exercise is very important no matter how much you know she's hurting. The longer she lays around the stiffer the joints get and she'll be in evan more pain.Take her for several walks everyday but don't push her to go to far.If she gets tired she'll sit down.Let her rest then go home. The next walk try to go a little farther than the first. But don't force it.She may not make it half as far as the earlier walk. That's fine She knows her limits.Just keep trying.

Make sure wear she sleeps or lays, that it is comfy and soft for her to lay. Do not let her lay on concrete. It causes more problems. An aspirin or two a day would help also. My brother's dog that I took care of had arthritis very badly and this helped him. Good luck.

Rimadyl is the top drug Vets are prescribing for arthritis its kind of expensive though if you have a large dog. You can try the home remedy approach but I didn't have much success with it.

Anti-inflammatories drugs are the best bet if he's not already on them, like Rimadyl. PLT is also a good one. I hear glucosamine supplements are useful, as they are with humans, but please get you vet to advise on the correct dosage. As far as husbandry, a soft deep bed will help. Also check your dog is not overweight at all (as labradors frequently are), and get it sorted if so, as extra weight greatly exacerbates limb/joint trouble. Several of the animals I see in my veterinary weight clinics have been referred to me to lose weight to help their arthritis.
