my cats mouth has become lob sided and swollen, we took him to the vet inwhich he said there was nothing wrong with his mouth but gave him an injection as he was clearly in pain. we have taken him back but the vet still says there is nothing wrong. has anyone out there any idea what it could be before we decide to take him back again or take him to another vet.

Oh! take him to another vet! Our cat died of a mouth tumor which no-one spotted, you know your cat better than this vet if you know somethings still wrong you should really push to get it sorted :)

Not really got a answer that is different from the others - see a diffrent vet!. But 4 weks ago our cat came in not looking himself i called the vet out to our house as I was really worried, they thought he may have been fighting - gave him a anti-inflammerty and told me to take him back to the surgey on the monday when they said he had ear mites. The next day i registered at a new vets as a knew this was crap - no cat will not move or eat because of earmites. To cut a long story short we went to the new vets that night and within 5mins he was in surgery with a bite that had got septic, it took him a week to recover - but thank god we got a second opinion.

definately take him to another vets your current one is no good. If it is swollen it could be a possible abscess which will need dealing with as they are very painful until burst, this will need cleaning up and too be left as an open wound to heal over. abscesses are common in cats on the face, it may only be a new abscess therefore stil a little hard to burst but still it needs sorting and at least a course of antibiotic/pain relieft is required as lets face it it cant be comfortable.
i know you have tried your best already its not you that is doing wrong it is your vet. good luck

Take for another opinion either to the another vet in the same practice or at another practice all together, if it came up suddenly it could a result of trauma, jaw fracture or tooth root abcess causing swelling.
If has appeared over a period of time then it is possibly a tumour of some descripition (most probably benign - not likely to spread). Without seeing it nobody can give you a definitive answer.
Either way if he is in discomfort they need to get to the bottom of what is causing it so they can treat it effectively. Its your right to seek a second opinion. Regular pain relief medications are not recommended in cats especially the older ones.

well it's not normal for a cat to have a swollen lopsided mouth which is causing him pain so I'd say there is definitely something wrong, even if it's nothing serious. It could be a sting or something. So I would go to another vet because the one you are using is clearly a pillock.

He May of had a stroke? I would see another vet, clearly something has happened for his mouth to of gone like that, and for the vet to say nothing is wrong with no explanations seems silly. Try some one else hon. Good luck. xx

Please change vets, right away!

If the animal is clearly in pain, and its mouth is distorted, then something is definitely going on. The vet should at least be able to tell you what is causing the swelling.

This can be due to anything from infected gums to tumors, as has already been mentioned. You need a qualified veterinarian to help you out.

Your vet seems to be a bit useless. Go to another, and insist on an x ray. Sounds like an abcess in the mouth, but it could be a tumor of the jaw - hence an x ray to make sure.

Our cat also died of a tumor in the jaw. It could be an infection in the tooth. Go to another vet for a second opinion.

Obviously something is wrong, i don't know why your vet can't find out what the problem is.

I really suggest getting a second opinion. I made that mistake with my cat and he died a week after seeing a vet that said "nothing was wrong"
