I have a pair of cockatiels. They have mated first on Sunday 18/03/07. The female and the male go i the nestbox ALOT and now they mate about 2 times a day. Also, the female goes in the nestbox and makes piping noises.

Sounds like she is in the nesting mode! If she has eggs, you can expect to see her start laying them around April 7, give or take a few days. She will then continue to lay an egg every other day until she has her full clutch (between 4-6 eggs).Good Luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although my female tiel has never been around another 'tiel, I can tell you that she loves laying eggs! About every six weeks she gets in the corner of her cage and starts laying in what she deems is her nest. Then, every few days, she'll lay an egg which she is highly protective of. This bird has never laid eyes on another bird since I've had her just off the dropper.
I can't answer your question for mating birds, but thought you might be interested in the behavior of my own mother hen who seems absolutely contagious to this nesting behavior. After about three weeks, she gets tired of the eggs, unfertilized, and just pushes them off to the side. The whole cycle then repeats itself several weeks on down the road.
It reminds me of a woman's cycle. I just let the bird alone and I talk nicely to her assuring her that I won't go anywhere near her eggs!
