They were books of the Old Testament, no New Testament or Gnostic tracts were found among them despite popular myth. The only really relevant thing to Christianity is a fragment of Isaiah quoted by Jesus. When John the Baptist was in jail and sent people to make confirm that Jesus was the Christ, Jesus quoted Isaiah and included a part "The dead are raised" (concerning what the Messiah will do) and that quote was absolutely missing from all the manuscripts of Isaiah until the Dead Sea Scrolls revealed that a manuscript of Isaiah, dating before Christ, included the "dead are raised" part. Critics who were claiming that Christ was trying to "insert himself" into the Hebrew Bible were absolutely silenced.

The Dead Sea scrolls, were written sometime in the 2nd century and placed in clay jars where they stayed until discovered back in 1947 by a beudonin boy. They prove beyond any reasonable doubt, that would stand up in any court in the land, that the scriptures of today's Bibles, are indeed accurate in their translations. That only grammatical errors can be found,i.e. punctuation and spelling which are the only differences found between the early 2nd documents and our 21st century copies!!!
But here, you can read Dr. Billy Graham's answer to the accuracy of todays Bibles in comparision to the 2nd century copies found in the caves.

Dead Sea Scrolls confirm accuracy of the Bible

By DR. BILLY GRAHAM

DEAR DR. GRAHAM: I have a friend who says that the Dead Sea Scrolls disprove Christianity. I don't know anything about this, but could he be right? I have tried to tell him about my faith in Christ, but he isn't very open to what I say. -- Mrs. M.P.

DEAR MRS. M.P.: No, your friend is not right when he claims that the Dead Sea Scrolls (and, for that matter, other writings from the ancient world) disprove the Bible.

In fact, the opposite is the case. Far from disproving the Bible, these ancient manuscripts repeatedly confirm the accuracy of the Bible and have helped us gain new insights into the world of those who lived during Bible times.

As you may know, the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered almost 60 years ago in a series of caves near the Dead Sea. Scholars agree that these ancient manuscripts -- written shortly before the life of Jesus -- are one of the most significant archaeological finds in modern history. Many contain books of the Old Testament and have repeatedly confirmed the accuracy of the texts of our Bibles. Other scrolls show that many people were eagerly looking for the coming of the Messiah.

From what you say, I suspect your friend's real problem is that he doesn't want to face his need of God. Even if all his questions were answered (as they could be), he probably would still refuse to believe in Christ because he wants to run his own life. He is like the people of whom Jesus spoke in one of His parables, who shouted, "We don't want this man to be our king" (Luke 19:14). Pray for your friend, and ask God to use you to help him see his need of Christ.

The dead sea scrolls where a set of scripture written about 100-200bce, which was used by a ascetical movement of Judaism as their Bible, Holy Scripture, Koran, Torah.
The amazing thing about them is that until then nothing that old had been found intact, and the scripture written in it, when translated was almost to the letter of the scripture we have come to know as the Old Testament, to the letter.
Consider that the person writing this was doing this by word of mouth, the same way biblical stories were passed down, since so few could write. It is an accomplishment and an account to the perfection of the word of God in the Old Testament.
God bless you always, thanks for the opportunity to spread the Gospel of faith.

They are a record of the history and beliefs of a sect of Judaism called the Essenes.

The Essenes were a group of Jews dedicated to asceticism, chastity and poverty. They followed the teachings of one they called the Master, a prophet of whom very little outside his beliefs and teachings is known. He apparently lived during the time of the Maccabees, about a century before Christ.
His followers lived in the eastern desert outside Jerusalem, then after the Romans moved in they went further out and lived near the Dead Sea.

Their importance lies in their historical and archaeological value, for they give a good picture of how a large group of Jews lived before and during the time of Christ. Some of the scrolls have copies of Old Testament books, some are about the ritual practices of the Essenes themselves and some describe their Teacher's belief system.

Simply put, think a cross between John the Baptist and Mother Teresa, with a dash of John Calvin.

They are the oldest texts of the Old Testament ever found, dating from 150BC. There are also many religious writings that are not present in the Bible.

I wonder what has been secretly withheld or destroyed by the ecclesiastic authorities regarding that matter.
