Unless you have people that must save for travel purposes at this time you don't really need to send save the date cards.
Invitations are usually sent 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding. Have the response card deadline at least 14 days prior to the wedding so that you can call people who have not responded and check to see if they are coming. If you feel awkward about doing the calling see if someone else in the family can do this for you. This way you can get a very accurate guest count for the caterer.
Also on your guest list assign everyone a number 1,2,3 etc. On the back of the response card put the number that you assigned them. Small in the corner will work. Many times people forget to put their name on the card. If you receive one without a name you can match the card to the number on the back. This has helped my clients many times.
Best of Luck

Save the Dates are optional, really just another way to get people to spend their money. However, I agree they are fun and up to the individual couple. They really can be given out at any time from the wedding date is set, in your case now would be fine. One little word of warning if you are in UK, especially Scotland where there tends to be the full meal, speeches etc after the marriage ceremony and then evening guests in time for the first dance, evening buffet, dancing etc. I know recently I have heard on 2 occasions of people been giving a Save the Date card, booked holiday day off work to discover they were only invited in the evening. As these are a fairly new idea it can cause a bit confusion. With regard to invitations in UK it always was the official time to send these out was 6 weeks before the wedding. However, sometimes now it is acceptable to send out earlier as depending on the hotel or whatever they can want an estimated bill paid in advance and you are charged for the numbers given whether they attend of not. It is also a good idea to put a date on your invitations as the latest you want your replies back. I am sure all will work out for you and you will very happy.

I think Save the Dates are for when you've set a day but not booked a venue or anything- and are really only needed if you have people coming from a long way away who will need to be arranging transport, hotels etc. So you should know the location at least, otherwise it's a bit pointless unless you're sending them to people overseas who need flights or something.
You can send out the invites when you have the church/registry office and reception booked. No need to do both unless you have a lag between setting the day and actually booking stuff.

I don't know anything about save the dates we don't tend to use them in Northern Ireland, but I would think they should go out as soon as possible. Usually wedding invitations are sent out by first class post at least 6-8 weeks before the event (around the beginning of July for your wedding), although if there is a holiday period or some invitations need to be sent abroad you should allow an extra week or so for this.

Save the dates are not really needed but if you do decide to do them, about 4-6 months ahead and the invites should be 4-6 weeks in advance! Congrats and good luck!

You don't have to send out Save the Dates, if you have lots of family coming in from out of town you should send out save the dates.
Invites should go out about 4 months before the wedding, so May. This gives your guests time to receive the invite, respond to the RSVP, and gives you time to get it all back.
If you still want to send out a Save the date I would send it out now.

Personally, I think save the dates are a waste of money unless you're having a destination wedding. Traditionally your entry in the newspaper is supposed to be your "save the date", I think. I'm pretty sure they can go out probably 6 months before hand.
As for the invitations, are you doing RSVPs? Normally 6-8 weeks before hand.
I did mine 7 weeks.

Save the dates are nice. I like the idea, they should go out 6 months in advance. Invites go out 30 days in advance unless you do RSVP. If so they should go out 6-8 weeks in advance so you can get the RSVP's back. RSVP's for wedding are generally for a sit down dinner where you have to have and exact count.

I would send out the save the dates now, and send out the invites 2 mts. before the wedding. this gives them plenty of time to RSVP.
