Hello, my son is a blonde haired, blue eyed beauty but every summer he gets these horrible white patches on his face that are very dry. The rest of his body gets very tanned. We put lotion and cream on them daily (dr suggested the cream) but nothing seems to help them. The spots look awful, does anybody have any suggestions on how to help treat or prevent these? We already use sunscrean and a hat...

The doctor advised NOT to use cortizone on the face, it will take even more pigment out of the skin. As for the diet, my son eats a wonderful diet, he fills up on fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, and whole grain cereal daily. He also takes a multi-vitamin...I am wondering about the exzema, my son did have this as an infant on his legs, he would get patches so dry they would bleed sometimes. Also the stress may be a factor, he is a stressing fool! lol

It's called excema.. hope I spelled it right. My 8 year old has it all over his face. He has it because I have dry skin also. It usually happens during changes in the weather, some stress can bring it on and also other things. It is bust to keep the face mostrized daily with cortizone and I use luberderim lotion.- sorry about the spelling... but I use lotion that helps heal the skin.

Your son may have very mild case of Vitiligo...It is a common condition that usually develops between the ages of 10 and 30 years. It is not uncommon though that it can develop earlier. The symptoms of this are: Dry white patches and loss of skin pigmentation... To keep the patches soft you should keep applying the lotion but there is nothing you can do about the color, unless you would want to try a self tanner to keep them covered.

I recommend all natural Small Wonder Creamy Baby Oil. It's been found to be very effective in clearing up a number of skin conditions and irritations. It's more like a cream than an oil and it's fast absorbing and less greasy. It's also pH balanced and dermatologist tested for delicate skin, and contains soothing vitamin E and allantoin to help prevent dryness and irritation. In one of your answers someone mentioned that it may be eczema - it's been successful in eliminating that condition as well. I always keep it on hand for my grandson and I've used it as well.

Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions.

This is something that could become very bad. Not to scare you but, my father got the same exact symtoms when he was younger and now he has skin cancer. Not the deadly kind but he is always having little places burned off his face. Anyway, go see a dermatologist and demand that they scrap the white spot and have it sent off to be analyzed. Better to catch it now. You are doing good though, continue with the sunscreen and hats, etc... Good luck

I have a similar problem - dont tan on a patch of my chin and its dry and flakey all year. I apply a moisturizing cream regularly and a bit of fake tan in the summer. Nothing works well though - I hope someone has a better answer coz ill try it too!
