It was 20 years ago that he did this, and he still laughs hysterically about this!

I don't get his fascination with the salt in the coffee thing - can anyone explain why he is still carrying on about this 20 years later?

So i'm guessing it tastes salty to you? And that there is not any thank you to maintain them on your direct line of sight jointly as they are making your coffee? have you ever asked them why your coffee tastes salty? i could do a pair of issues. First, on an afternoon whilst those workers are working, have somebody else purchase a cup of coffee for you and then purchase one your self. style them the two to make certain if there's a distinction. perhaps the kind of coffee is purely undemanding nasty, or they do it to all and sundry. some human beings upload salt to a pot of coffee to eliminate bitterness - I upload a pinch myself - so perhaps they are doing this and including too lots. next, if this is obvious which you are the only one being "a-salted," the subsequent time they do it, take the cup directly to a supervisor and function them attempt it. in case you would be unable to get any satisfaction, it's time to purchase a Thermos and placed across your individual!

Granted, it was a childish joke. But to him, it was an act of defiance. Being able to do something against the "establishment" and getting away with it. At least for a time. The salt would have left a bitter taste in a persons mouth, by the way....
So, today, he doesn't have much to be proud of, in the independent arena, so he falls back on his one crown of glory. Cut him some slack.

Childhood memories can be a source of stability and provide a connection back to less stressful times. Perhaps he is just recollecting that experience as a fond memory of childhood. For many, it would seem a little too excessive, but for him, it is meeting some kind of need. let him have his peace with it.

People older than him can tell you about a prank they pulled years ago and they still laugh about it.

it could be because he felt like he was getting away with some thing because she didn't notice the 1st 2 times that he did it so he felt like he got one over on grandma

I would say that the act was rather mean spirited and uncalled for by your brother.
