It is more common for males to pass out than females when giving blood. Also when they offer snacks and drinks make sure you take them. Eating small amounts and drinking will also help to keep you from passing out.

Just relax. Giving blood is not that hard. I've done it a ton of times. Be sure that you eat a good meal before you donate, and afterward they will give you juice and cookies. Eat them and relax for a few minutes before you go back to class. If you start to feel lightheaded tell the attendant right away. They will take good care of you. Some people do pass out when giving blood, but most people don't. The best thing you can do to make sure you don't is to eat a good lunch.

Giving blood is no big deal. Just think of the thousands of people that have given blood before you and think of the person that will benefit by your donation. Sure the needle stings a little bit but the phlebotomist that is taking your donation is licenced and is a professional. Trust me you are doing a great thing for the world. Just try to think of how much good you are doing and the pain will be justified.

Every person is a little different when they see blood. Me personally, I have never had a problem with it. It is kind of cool when you give blood, watching the bag fill up knowing that it will be saving someones life. However, if you are known to faint at things -- look away, or take a book/magazine to read. Either way -- CONGRATS -- thanks for helping out!!

Remind yourself that you are saving a life! That always works for me :) If you feel ill, don't look at the bag :) Be sure to take the juice and cookies offered to you - it will help. If you do pass out, remember you are not the first, and certainly won't be the last.

bring someone that you can really talk with about anything and talk...even while they are taking your blood..and don't listen to your smartass brother...lol..
bring a boyfriend, friend..someone close to you that you can talk to.
and if you can't, just think about someone special you would want to spend the rest of your life with... this guy is sitting right beside you, endless memories and conversations...would you ever want them to really stop taking your blood then?
hope that helped...didn't know how to word whats in my mind...hope that helped tho
