I called mine Stella, it stuck with me. I didn't know anyone named Stella, just liked the name I guess. Don't give it a serious name but something humorious

It was just easier saying I got to go get Stella, or someone would ask how is Stella doing. Then always I could say nice job Stella, or this is a bad situation Stella.

Tell your buddy have fun, and good luck. We appreciate his service. I was in for 5 years, and been over there quite a bit. So I know little things like that make time go by.

I think you mean M4, unless M16s are still issued? But you can go for "Pyle" or "terminator" or "joker", im not good with nicknames.

As the guy basically said, its best to name it after a girl. His girlfriend/fiance ex girlfriend, etc. You can try "Peggy Sue"

I named mine after a girl i liked in high school named "'yani" since I slept with it while I was in Iraq to keep accountability. I'm in a new unit with a new m16 and shot my best with it last Saturday. So i am naming it after classie after a girl i really liked in Iraq.

When I was in Basic, they told us to name our rifles after girlfriends. Not having a girlfriend at the time, I named it after my friend Eric. When they started making fun of me for it, I asked them how many women they were willing to trust with their life in combat. That shut 'em up.

Tell him not to. Generally only young, inexperinced or what is called a "hard core private" name their weapons. It is veiwed in a way like a person who feels the need to name thier penis or car. Sort of like an extension of their manhood. A weapon is a tool designed for killing and naming it appears to be a "weak" thing to do and denotes a lack of professionalism.
