My nephew just turned 11 years old and he is such a whiner. I mean anything he can't do or does not like, he whines about it. Also, he always talks back to be sister and has an opinion about everything. For example, if my sister says that is enough TV, he would say well, you are going to watch TV, why can't I? What should she do.

well she should make him mind and understand she is the adult .He needs to have rules and when he breaks the rules he needs to be punished,Take away his game cube or what ever system he has or his game boy and send him to his room to think about what he did wrong, and there should be no Tv or Radio in his room while he is in there because those are privileges and he is being punished.I can't really say how to stop the whining,I think we all do that at some point, just have her point out that he is 11 and he should not be wining at this age.

The child whines because thats what works on his mother. If the parent doesnt allow it to work it will stop. Also why is the parent allowed to watch TV but hes not? Maybe the parents should turn the TV off and spend some time with him. Whats he suppose to do while the parents watch TV? Everybody has an opinion why shouldn't he have an opinion? He's entitled to it. If hes talking back to his mother she needs to punish him in a just matter a good ole time out every time he talks back or take away his phone, computer etc. The kid is asking why thats not whinning its a good question. If kids dont asked question how are they suppose to learn?

It sounds as though he is really testing limits, which is fairly typical of this age. Your sister needs to set firm, clear limits for him, and follow through. If she says no TV, she needs to stick to her guns. If he is talking back or rudely questioning her, inviting him to spend some time in his room until he can speak respectfully may help. It is important to let him know in no uncertain terms who is in charge and who isn't. It is possible to do so in a kind way, but consistency is key.

Tell her to grow up and start PARENTING!! Good God, she has allowed this behavior -- unless she wants it to continues -- forever -- tell her to grow a pair and stand up to him!! She is the parent NOT HIM. When she says enough TV, for example, there should NEVER be "why can't I" --- I swear I saw red when I read your question. I am going out on a limb here and assume there is no dad in the picture. Either way, SHE has to grow UP and become a parent - he does not need a friend!

You need to teach him that all adults need respect from him. Regardless of whether it's fair or not. When family tells you to do something. You do it. You can make a deal about the fairness of it another time, but when you're told, that's the final answer.

Don't let him get away with it. Punish him by taking away privileges and ground him. If she looses control of him now, she'll really have problems later.

sounds like she's letting him get away with it already. If my stepdaughter talks back to me she gets one warning, if she does it again she has to either sit on her bed or stand in the corner. she doesnt do it very often.
