Somebody so obtuse, so ignorant as to actually believe that MMA fighting is fake would be a huge challenge to teach. You can either enlighten this person, which would give you a huge sense of accomplishment and relief, as you are fighting ignorance, or ignore the fool and commit your energy to something else.
I'd personally try to enlighten your friend, If i can help fight ignorance, I'll do my best.

That friend of yours it's even worth the aggravation. MMA are mainly about self control, discipline, and protecting the people who can't protect themselves. So beating up that person would just be a disgrace to the the MMA's values.
I've been in a similar situation myself. A friends boyfriend told me that the martial art that I'm studying is wimpy and a waste of my time. He said I should learn a real martial art like the one he studies instead of Tae kwon do. At first I was in the same situation as you, I was angry. How dare he make fun of my art? Then I realized that I was doing just what he wanted. I was getting upset and he was getting a " rise" out of teasing me.
Friends shouldn't make fun of you for what you like. So he thinks it fake. He must be a total moron then. And if he was acting like that, then it's sad to say but whatever you do he's probably never going to change his mind. And if he see's you reacting in a defensive way then he's probably going to keep picking at you. I know it may be hard... and yes I'd probably be boiling inside too but try and act cool. If he trys to pull that on you again try and say something like " Well you may think so but I like it none the less. " in a cool manor. That might get him to back off seeing that your not getting upset by what he says.
Good luck, hopefully that jerk will lay off.

Sometimes the violence is so surreal, it is as if you are watching a fantasy. So I can understand how someone that does not watch a lot of MMA or is new to the sport can think it is set up. It is just so real sometimes it almost looks fake, but we know it is a s real as it gets.

let them believe their opinion becase they are not fans of the sport anyway and mean nothing to the growth of it. fake punching him wont mean much either, just promotes more of a negative light to mma fans. if anything, ask him to prove its fake and then u can disprove him. dare him to show u a spot in an MMA match where the fighter blades himself to make himself bleed, thatll be a good one, or explain rich franklins broken nose from anderson silva.

Arrange him a MMA fight.
Luckily almost all of my friends know it's a real thing. They wouldn't dare to question it especially after seeing the damages I recieved in Muay Thai.

It's very easy to change those kinds of people's attention. All you have to do is perform some of the MMA moves on them and make them experience it.
Some guy told me that there's no way that you can break somebodies arm from arm bars. So I did it to him and snapped his arm and he believed me. It's that smiple. They'll never know until they actually experience it.
That's how stupid they are.

I would laugh and ask him if he thought the astronauts landing on the moon was fake too. I'd ask him if he thinks that Elvis is still alive. I'd ask him if he believes the U.S. actually attacked itself on 9/11.
He's probably just trying to get you riled up, there's a lot of people like that.

laugh. especially if they couldnt see the difference between hulk hogan and Fedor. I would laugh, then go upstairs and shag his mum, thereby entitling me to call him "boy".
well, the first part about laughing anyway.
