When I am holding my parakeet and my husband comes to sit by me, the bird fluffs up his feathers and sort of shakes his wings. I just adopted my parakeet last weekend, but feel he is already attached to me. Also, he opens and closes his beak without making any noises, I am not sure what that means either. I would appreciate any feedback you can give me! Thank you!!

My Quaker fluffs when there is a breeze, to dry off aftera bath, when he is happy and comfortable, when he's sleeping, and also birds fluff up a lot during the day to put their feathers back in place that have become out of place.

Birds often puff themselves up when they're nervous so as to seem bigger and more menacing (difficult in the case of a budgie). sounds like it's still nervous around hubby. just needs to get used to him.

He likes you, th puffing isa called preening ( to clean its self), and opening its beak is a sign of content.
Good Luck!

Sounds like horniness probably. But, it could feel threatened by your husband. They'll puff up for either reason. If it tries to rub its vent on you, then you know it's horny.
