Is fate and/or destiny real? is there really a master plan in life, and everything really does happen for a reason?

Fate/Destiny is real, and everything is happenned for a reason.
God is the only one who control the fate and destiny , however we humans have a chance to change our fate, by having the grant of free will.
it's up to God, whether your choice will change your destiny or not.

Here's my take:
I do not believe that any one person or any one religion has "THE" answer.
What I do believe is that God gave us free-will to explore and discover our own destiny.
The forces that shape our lives include our bumping into the free-willpower of others.
It is a lot like ripples in water, concentric circles collide with other ripples.
Only God has the definitive answer as to why things work as they do.
We can only nudge life.

I think its a mix.
The main things in our life are determined for us, but its up to us how we get there. Ie..children, family etc..
God brings people into our lives, its up to us to keep them there or let them go. The beginning and end are decided, but we can enjoy the journey and make it as great as possible or we can be miserable the entire way and just bide our time.
