Does an interest in the subject negate a lack of belief or practice?

Thank you for the many thoughtful and example-ful answers.
I kind of new the answer already since I do not believe in or practice a religion but find many of them interesting. However, I read an answer on Y!A that basically said that an agnostic or athiest person would have no interest in religion. I thought it was a load of cr*p but wanted to see if other people thought the same.
Thanks again for your answers. I see that the majority of people don't agree with what I read.

I have a 35 year background in religious study and practice. Do I just forget all of that now that 'atheist' is the most honest label for me?

Religion is still a powerful force in society. My experience, knowledge and insight has value. I would like to continue to contribute to the conversation. Is that not allowed?

And it is fascinating to watch religious people in action here on the forum. I've learned so much about the way they think. Enough to be truly scared of what happens if they gain any more control of the U.S. government and legislation.

Just because you are interested in something doesn't mean you have to beleive it, they can not believe in God but be interested in finding out about different religions and beliefs. So in theory an athiest could teach religious studies.

It is very well possible to be an atheist or agnostic and still be interested in religion. You don't have to believe in or agree with everything that interests you.

No ... All of us will search in some manner, for the Truth. Along the way we may allow ourselves to be mislead ... atheist and agnostics tend to pick and choose what they believe ... which ultimately, causes a whole multitude of issues with regard to our free will ...

No. Atheists don't believe in god, and just because they want to learn about a religion doesn't mean that they suddenly believe in god.

Does an interest in Atheists/agnostics make you an atheist or agnostic?

the athiest and agnostic are not logical. This is a religous site. If i were interested in fishing i would be in a fishing site and would probably ask and answer good questions(hopefully). they rarely have anything positive to say here; just ridicule. Sure their interested and seeking, just wont admit it, so they act angry to cover it up. I hope they stay here and learn something.

Not at all.

I have an interest in watching shows about crab fishing in Alaska, but you will never see me on a fishing boat in sub zero temperatures trying to wrestle with a king crab.

Its just an interest

Nope- I'm very interested in a lot of religions- I like to learn, I like new info, I like to be informed- that does not mean that I am looking for god or that I think I may find god

I am open minded in learning about religions but I have yet find any proof of god's existence by evidence or logic.
