i have an olympus stylus 600, and was wondering how to take pictures of moving objects, i know about the sports setting and motion blur setting, but what i'm trying to do is throw a bunch of dice in the air against a black back drop, the problem is that when thw flash goes off the light intensity is to bright, i'v lowered the plus and minus thing, but it only goes to minus 2, i wanted to take the picture without the flash but the shutter speed seems to take much longer and just doesn't work, is there a way to keep quick shutter speed without the flash? there seems to be no options dealing with shutter speed on the camera?

Try taping something across the flash like a layer or two of tissue. This will difuse the flash and yet allow you to shoot at the higher shutter speed.

It sounds like you are doing everything possible to make this work. You may try doing this with less natural light. That way you can keep the flash setting the same. Unfortunately, low end digital cameras do not operate like fully manual SLR 35 mm cameras. I had a similar problem with the shutter speed on a similar camera. Good luck

Not familiar with this particular camera but I wondered if there is some means of adjusting the equivalent film speed - the ASA rating. If there is select the highest available then experiment with the shutter speed. Just a thought!

You'll be hard pushed to achieve this effect with this camera. The shutter speed will be too long without flash, so all I can suggest is trying neutral density filter to reduce the brightness of the image. Will require alot of experimenting !
