Many v.v.v. nosey people out there. I don't take part in those conversations as they are non-conversations, usually not positive and serve no purpose.
If they talk about their "friends" like that to you, then there is a mighty good chance they will be talking about you to them. Keep out of it.
Bored, pathetic little lives.

I think I tend to gossip because there are just little things that bug me about people. If I didn't share it with someone, I would just keep thinking about it and eventually those little things would begin to bug me more and more. But if I talk to someone, I feel a relief that I can let that tiny annoyance out and I get encouraged not to overreact. I think that is why I gossip, but I can't say the same for everyone.

I think gossip rarely has anything to do with the person being talked about.
People by nature want to belong, be apart of something and feel united. It's rare that people will actually form a unity without bitching about something.
No-one questions whether people should complain about their jobs, or telephone company. People who share similar jobs share common aspeccts of their job that they don't like and it's culturaly acceptable to talk about them.
What do people complain about if they only common connection is someone they know?
Is it right? No. Can we stop it? No. But you can stop contributing to it yourself and find another way to belong.

It's wrong. It only causes problems. The people who gossip, usually are not brave enough to say something to someone's face. Apparently, they have nothing else better to do with their time than talk about you anyway. ;)

You really answered your own question... You are right, gossip is wrong! It is better to find the good in people and not be saying anything bad about someone else...

harmless gossip can be okay but... some people just cant stand it and they just wanna blurt out bad things bout other people. well, im sure you're right. focus on optimistic things, and you're already doing other people a great favour! but sometimes, you have to be careful of the friends you have...
