Whats the best way to pack a bridesmaid dress?

I'm traveling to a wedding, and in the wedding party, so i need to pack my bridesmaid dress. I will be flying 36 hours before the wedding. Whats the best way to pack the dress with minimal wrinkling so that its in the best condition? Airline can't guarantee space to hang the dress in separate "coat check" type of place.

Definitely take it with you on the plane. We've been seeing some horror stories about lost baggage on the news lately, and there's no way I'd let a dress out of my sight if traveling by plane. It's not like you can go out and get a new one.

Basically, If you would rather pack the gown yourself, line the box with tissue and lay the gown face down in the box so that the top of the gown extends beyond the box, the middle of the gown is in the box, and the train also extends beyond the box. Make sure you have the gown centered in the box and that the part that is face down is spread flat so there are no creases or folds.
Beginning at the side seams, fold the skirt lengthwise over bunched tissue until the skirt is no wider than the box. Then add more tissue and fold the bottom of skirt over into the box. Add still more tissue and fold the top of gown over so that it, too, fits into the box. Think of the gown as your body and that you are doing the impossible: laying on your stomach with your legs folded up over your back at the same time your head and shoulders are bent back over your legs and facing up. Now use still more tissue to stuff the bodice and sleeves, if there are any. When you are finished, the dress should not be able to move around in the box

I would be surprised if they let u on the plane with it as it could be used as a weapon......especially if u wear it......You'll probably distract the pilot. Lets pray the baggage handlers don't lose it. Do u have to take it on the plane...is the dress from a franchised outlet....could u get it out there or is it already made..is it fitted or off the rack. ...or is it a long flight....could wear it....can u iron it? would it fit in front of your legs on the plane. If u can iron it then I suggest a flat box about half the size the dress and fold it once and put it in a plastic bag with bubble wrap in inside the fold so u don't get a firm crease but a rounded fold. Hope this helps. Ask the bridal shop and see what they suggest.

Buy a travel steamer, they are only about $20. Pack the dress in a "suit bag" that will fit it without fabric pooling in the bottom of the bag. That way if the airline has room to hang it, you will be prepared and if you have to fold it in half and put it in an overhead luggage bin, you will be able to steam out the wrinkles in a short time.

You have a couple different options...if you bought the dress locally, you can go to the bridal shop or wherever you bought it and ask them to package it for you as if they were shipping it...they will put it in a large box. You should be able to carry it with you and put it in the overhead bin as a carry on. Or you may want to check into the price of shipping it separately to the bride by UPS or Fed Ex so that it will be there when you get there....I'd ship it early and ask to her take it to a local dry cleaner for you when she receives it so that any wrinkles can be pressed out well before the wedding!

Pack it in a garment bag. This will keep it as protected as possible. Most garment bags can fold in half and clip so that you can comfortable carry it. DEFINATELY make it your carry on. Don't forget to tuck your shoes, underwear, stockings, etc. in there as well. God forbid your bags are lost you will be all set. When you get to your destination if it got a little wrinkled put it in the bathroom and turn the hot water on high! It should have it out in no time!

At formal store they have cheap plastic garment bags. or get one from Walmart.

place dress in the garment bag and carry it on with you. hang it on that little thing above the window if you have the window seat if not lay it on you lap.

It may get wrinkled if you put it in the bin over your head, use a plastic hanger so, it does not set off the alarm or cause a permenant crease.

Delta always found room for my dresses, strollers and etc they understand not wanting to check special things.

Roll the dress up carefully in white tissue paper. This minimizes wrinkles. You can always steam it out on the hanger before wearing. Ask the bridal shop about the material& any tips they might have. Have fun & good luck!

I've always had luck rolling things instead of folding them in suitcases. That way you don't get a crease. Then, when you get there (cause I'm sure you'll want to anyway) take a nice hot shower, and keep the dress hung in the bathroom with you. Not in the shower...of course!:)

I would contact either a store that sells them, a tuxedo store, or even a dry cleaning store for professional advise. they may even be able to refer you to a similar store that is at the location of the wedding, who can prepare the dress (remove the wrinkles ) prior to the wedding. good luck girl

The best way to pack a bridesmaid dress is to pack it with a bridesmaid. Short of that, it's a bridesmaid dress. It's probably not all that attractive anyway.
