my 1st thought was no i don't think i am righteous but then i realised i wasnt sure what it exactly meant so looked it up on online dictionary:

1. Morally upright; without guilt or sin
2. In accordance with virtue or morality
3. Morally justifiable:

In terms of this I am now confused as to whether I am righteous or not. I think my actions are morally justifiable but I am not without guilt.

However I don't think my opinion on this has anything to do with my atheism as Christian or not anybody that says they are without guilt or sin thinks a bit too much of themselves for my liking.

It all depends n your definition of the word. We also don't go around proclaiming to be righteous because there is no point in it. Christians do it so they can look good around other people. I'd say I'm pretty righteous but I don't yell it on top of a mountain or anything I stay humble about it I see no reason to throw it in peoples faces.

Most people hear 'righteous' and think 'self-righteous.' (Some) Christians hear 'righteous' and think 'Jesus.'

There is always arrogance in assuming that you, and yours, have a monopoly on the truth. So, yes, many Christians are being arrogant.

I don't know if I'd call myself "righteous." It just seems like an arrogant term. (Like I think that I'm nearly perfect, and I'm telling people that I'm better than them.) I like to think that I'm a good person... I try to be a good person.

I guess I define righteous as being without sin. Because I do not believe in sin, I do not consider myself righteous.

I consider myself a basically good person who tries hard to do what's right but cannot control her sarcasm. Whatever label that earns me, I'll wear it.

You would have to define "righteous" for me to answer that. It is mostly a religious term and the meaning varies a lot. I know that I am moral.

I don’t know how I came to be,
was it someplace murky where becoming delirious is appropriate
A place where I descend into turmoil
Following the blood path of hate?

I sit emotionless in yet another trance. My mind is darkness and impure.
My words are unspoken. Yet the others could see my lips moving.
The voices are telling me that the truth is a lie.
Eerie whispers demoralize my neurotic mind. I obey all orders of torment and sacrifice.
Then before I know what I am doing, I find that I am swaying,
Burying reality with a beautiful knife resting in my pocket.

This knife will be used to peel skin until flesh will bleed crimson sores. The hostile laughter and smirking of the others, makes me feel anguished.
I will make them BEG!
I want to plunge the blade into their eyes, caressing the surface of the retina.
I will release their screams, these helpless cries are insoluble.
They will BLEED for me, while I have brutal flashes of myself bathing in their blood.
I watch myself in a mirror, slicing into their pathetic flesh, I am giggling, and it is funny to me – the mess of the human body.
The stink flesh must be slaughtered. I am kANE and I will feed them to their children -
And then I shall slaughter their children and feed them to the PIGS.

The knife is dripping with blood and it excites me, I feel like bouncing off the walls, striking out at everyone. I stare into dead eyes.
Then I begin to shake my vertiginous body into the void.
My heart slowly beating against the cold decaying flesh of the dead.
Finally I am blinking, sobbing, and trembling on my knees. “Kill them kill them kill them all,” the voices are proud of me. They possess my consciousness.
They are the reason for my addictions and actions.
Leading me through a life of being an experiment, a medicated misery, and a psychotic patient of 40 gashes.
One glimpse of them will deliver to me the punishment and the pain.
“You tricked my eyes!” I shout at the stranger I see standing in the mirror.

I don’t know how I came to be,
but I exist and that is acceptable to me.
The voices comfort me and the
Following hallucinations are to retrieve the moments of lost schizophrenia.
And then the reality of death will once again BE whole.
For I am a god and I will be worshipped – I am the saviour and I shall savour their fear.
I shall punish all the SCUM, THE AWFUL, THE UGLY, THE STUPID and the weak.

egotism is a human condition, it transcends religion race or ethnicity.

edit-as others have pointed out there is a difference between the true meaning of the word and what some people have come to believe it means., but in general most people probably think they are right.
